If one is or wants to be in HR but agrees with the opinions in r/antiwork & wants to do good for the employees, how do they navigate it especially with the “HR is for the company, not for the employees” narrative?
Time to Dip
Brain dead boss doesn't seem to comprehend the fact that I have a life outside of work and has consistently attempted to schedule me to work on days I need off for my military drill weekends or for previously requested and granted days off. So, I figure I could shell out a couple Bennies to get an entry level IT cert and see what kind of opportunities I could get with anyone else that has nothing to do with this company. 4 1/2 years of this with no compensation, shoulda done this after the first month, but we were all naive once upon a time
am i entitled to unemployment?
so i got “let go” yesterday from my job. i’ve only been working there for 4 months. i got called into the managers office and was given this spill about how the place was at a loss last month and they can’t afford to pay my position. so they are doing away with my job and let me go. i don’t know a thing about unemployment so just curious. I start school in 4 months so i was really hoping to stay at my job till then
Job search websites need to do better
I’m sure many of you here have used one if not several of the job listing websites available. I use several to keep my resume up to date, keep up to date with the average pay range for my job, and occasionally throw in a couple applications to see if one sticks. Recently I have had some horrible experiences because a lack of vetting of job listings. In particular a growing issue on these platforms, scammers- the first type being predatory companies that offer extremely low wages for jobs that require a fair amount of experience, and job listings that lie about being “remote work”. The second being those that try and steal my identity. I am not joking when I say I was actually convinced to give out pictures of my state id and my social security number in a job application, just to realize I’m an idiot. I’ve…
This is just a proposal for you guys to consider. Although this sub serves some kind of purpose by showing solidarity between the working class and exposing the slave like conditions that are inherent to the capitalist system we live in. The popularity of this sub has brought a lot of new (sometimes uninformed) opinions that have limited the conversation to people complaining about their employers and talking about minimum wage and unionizing. That is all fine and well but prevents the community to seeing a future in which things are different. Now, I am not a socialist nor a communist (I lack enough reading for that), just plain anti-capitalist. But it would be great if we started discussing ideas instead of people/employers. I would love to see a thread discussing “The wealth of nations” or “Das Kapital” or any other work that people here deem worthy of discussion. Not…
Can’t Tell if Depressed or What
I've pretty much been anti-work for as long as I can remember, but I didn't have the right terminology to describe the sentiments, plus through conditioning, I was made to feel abnormal for preferring leisure time over work that I didn't feel reaped any value. I remember being a kid and just not caring about something that either wasn't interesting to me personally or I didn't see how it would improve my life or the lives of those around me (of course, kids can't always determine that for themselves). I struggle with this even today- I work because I have to. I don't come from money. I didn't marry into money. My last job kinda fit my needs in the sense that it required little to no effort, but unsurprisingly, it paid absolute garbage. I had no choice but to find a new job since I was never gonna get…
I work in a field where we work right out of our clients homes. Our direct care workers are required to write a detailed session note for each and every session but sometimes technology doesn't cooperate. It could be internet connection, iPad issues, issues with our app, etc. It happens a lot and when techs can't submit their session note during their regularly paid time, they have to go home and do it. It may only take 5-10 minutes but I recently asked how they should put that time at home into their time sheet. I was told: “This occasion would not constitute additional time to be billed to complete the note. It is best for technicians to make notes to themselves on general notes section or other format in the event the app or note is not allowing them to document as they go so that any issues needing…
Blue collar worker. Exhausted physically and mentally. Gonna end Friday with 50 hours and just got notified that weekend work is mandatory. Just wanted to know other peoples thoughts on this.
