That bothered me so much, especially that I always give a 110% at work and one of the best workers.. and it wasn't like I was taking that day off to go hang out and party you know?? Moreover; I even found someone to replace me but he only would make it 2 hours late.. that was unacceptable to her.. she told me I'll have to arrive.. wait there's more!!! IM WAITING TO DO THIS INTAKE FOR ALMOST 2 FREAKING YEARS. And she knows I suffer from mental illnesses and is having a hard time for a while.. all of this haunted me to the next day, before work next day I started having anxiety attacks because I couldn't imagine seeing my boss and interacting with her, so I called my doctor got myself 2 sick days, went to the intake and I'm about to start therapy soon .
I am not American, so this isn't in USD. The most I would have had the courage to ask for my experience and based on what others that I know are earning would have been 6k-6.5k per month. I didn't answer the salary questions and I asked them what their range was. It was around 8k-12k. I told them 8k-10k would be a salary that would motivate me, but if they can't offer me that I am a bit flexible with the salary range. Today I got an offer from them at around 8.7k. This is more than 2x what my current employer is paying me. Also, it is a fully remote position, so I won't have to change cities or spend countless hours each week on my way to work regardless of how pandemic restrictions change.
I used to work at a restaurant. COVID shut it down. We all knew it was our final day. My manager was super salty because regular customers (family of her bf, no less) tipped me $500 cuz they knew I had a wife and kid and a mortgage and I was about to lose my job. I was on my phone in the back. It wasn't interfering with work and I was taking care of guests just fine. She shouted at me to get off my phone and gave me this look like an angry mom yelling at a bratty kid. I said, “Mary, this is my last day. I have a wife and a baby. You are not going to stop me from looking for a new job.” She didn't say anything else and went back to cooking. I overheard her on the phone calling my friend in to…
I had a recruiter for a construction company reach out to me about a position. I straight up said location and compensation are my two motivators, here’s my resume and project portfolio. We talked on the phone and I outlined the annual amount I’d need at minimum to consider moving. He passes my info along to the company, they send me the job description. I inform them it’s well within my skill set (see resume and portfolio), what’s your compensation budget? If we’re close I’ll do an interview. He responded that it “depends on the abilities of the candidate.” Sorry, pass. I’m not taking time out of my day for a second interview for a job further away if you can’t give me a ballpark number.
In my yearly review yesterday I was told we were getting raises in April. “10%?” I asked. They said no. “8%?” No. “Well considering inflation was 8% last year, we're not actually getting a raise then.” I make $15 an hour. You're telling me you can't give me $1.50 more? The pay is the only reason I'm looking for a new job. My coworkers are great, my manager is great, my job is easy. But $15 an hour in the city isn't getting me far
