My boyfriend had a work injury that requires him to work remotely. A lot of these jobs have been remote but are now forcing people in. He just had an interview for a job and they said he can't be accommodated because it's mandatory for everyone soon to come in 16 times a month. I'm just fucking annoyed. He has a damn disability and the job can obviously be done remotely. I dont understand why some companies are being like that. It's a customer service position. The interviewer said his ap will now be withdrawn. I'm just pissed. Idk if this was okay to post here.. This was for Navy federal credit union.
Firstly, I know I am responsible for my own actions, and if I want to quit smoking, I should. That doesn’t change the fact that I would not have started if there were others ways to take a break during shifts as long as 12 hours. Anyone else? This is in Michigan.
Inflation.
My company is giving people an average of 2% merit increases this year when inflation is at 7.5%. My direct report just got upset and did the math that she will basically be making less this year. Now I've got calls with my superiors about “talking points”. America.
We use Teams to communicate in our company. When I was inexperienced, I made a mistake of answering my boss message at 10 pm, which led me to a whole lot of work on a new project in the next two weeks. (If I did not reply to that message I would not have to do it because he would just assign to another unfortunate member who replies) Mistakes no more. I set two alarms: one in the morning, around 15 mins earlier than the starting time, and one in the afternoon, around 15 minutes later than the ending time. When the alarm rings, I log off/on everything related to work: email, apps. On Friday night I just logged them off until Monday morning. If things REALLY are an emergency, people would actually call me. With this way, I got out of a LOT of off-time message/call request at night,…
So I was feeling bummed about my salary being 15% under market rate so I decided to make myself feel better and do job pricing on multiple other jobs to see how far behind everyone was. I was stunned when I found this: Everyone in my organization is roughly 10-15% behind market rates, except every position in a single department. Human Resources. HR at my employer is responsible for doing market evaluations for jobs and posting salaries. Every single job in HR is at least 30% over market rate. So a total discrepancy of 45% between HR and all other departments in salary. The audacity of this place! The HR generalists make as much as I do as a Senior Systems Analyst! I am still reeling from this and don’t know what to do, i feel like retaliating. Any ideas?
Our livelihoods are just a game to them.
My boyfriend’s current company is the typical underpaying, CEO-making-millions, “we had record profits during COVID but can’t give pay raises and also you can’t be remote anymore” shitty company. I could write a whole post about them, but that’s not my vent today. With his company forcing them back to work in the office (right when gas prices are ridiculous), he is looking for a job that will both pay him for what he does and also will let him remain remote. A recruiter reached out to him for a company that would give him a 50% raise and was fully remote. They had him go through three interviews and one weird personality assessment. After the first two interviews went really well, the recruiter reached out to my boyfriend a day before the third interview and let him know the job was his; the third interview was just a formality…
This is a small complaint, but your break shouldn’t have to include the time it takes to walk to the break room. I previously worked at a midwest grocery/superstore chain as a cashier, and the clock was at the front of the store, where the checkout lanes were. But the break room was in the far back of the building, taking over a minute to just walk back there, and I walk fast! By the time you get to your locker and sit down, you’ve got at best 11 minutes before you need to put your stuff away and walk back up to the front of the store. I realize it’s a small time loss, but it meant you were always stressing about getting back from break fast enough, and you couldn’t actually just rest. It’s nearly a third of your total break time just walking to the break room!…
