‘It’s a solution to suit everyone’: Calls for retirees to rejoin the workforce | Sky News Australia Getting retirees back into the workforce increases supply in the labor market while simultaneously decreasing demand in the job market. Nifty way to drive down wages (and work conditions).
Tomorrow, I will be putting in my two weeks to a job that I’ve only been at for around 2 months. It’s a corporate kitchen and it’s been proven to me again that corporate environments aren’t for me. I’m giving notice in person because I work very closely with my boss anyway and don’t want it to be more awkward than it is, but I’ll also be giving less than 2 weeks (like 12 days) because I got sick and had to call out before I could do it today. Anyway, my boss and I aren’t best friends but I feel kinda bad about doing this because so many people are quitting consistently and I don’t want her to have to drown in work since we’re the only two people in our pastry department. How do I stop feeling bad about this? . Edit: I should probably add that she…
How do I go about asking for a raise?
For context, I work 20 hrs a week min wage as the only maintenance employee at my location of a nationwide chain. I am often approximately $200 short for food money each pay cycle after rent payments, and I have consistently had to beg for money on twitter or from my parents (who I have a rocky relationship with atm) every two weeks and I'm getting sick of it. I want to at the very least ask for more hours and at least $15 an hour, because I really do like this job and I don't want to have to leave it for w*lmart again. (For context I'm trans and got sidelong threats at work constantly there, meanwhile people here are incredibly respectful and I don't feel abysmal dread every day I have to work.) Is there something I can do to keep this job and still make enough just…
No water provided for 1 week.
I recently started a new job at a daycare in California. We have a staff of 22 and for the first few weeks they provided plastic water bottles for employees. I hate this method as it’s so wasteful, but at least they were providing water. I have a 32 oz water bottle that I fill before coming into work, but I still go through an additional 2-3 plastic waters as it’s been getting warmer and I am running around after kids all day. But since the end of last week they have not been providing water bottles so I’ve had to buy my own from the gas station next door, as have everyone else. I finally said something to my bosses on Tuesday and their response was “Yeah I’ve been trying to order it for the past few days.” Wtf do you mean you’ve been “trying” to order it. Like…
Really? WTF.
Maternity Leave
My wife's boss asked if she could come in to work the third week of her maternity leave. Said anytime she works would be made up eventually. Says she is too important and they really need her. The same boss that felt her up at her work baby shower. Need to rest up for our meeting with our attorney tomorrow 😉
Manager from hell part 2
Last post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/tnadbm/manager_from_hell/ Another story goes like this. We had some important training coming up. As I was planning it, I wanted to have a mockup to train as close to the job as possible. I brought this up in a meeting and said I could build it. one of the engineers said that there already was one that was built for tool testing years ago but it was stored at a different site. Emails were sent and I ended up traveling to that site to inspect and claim it but when I got there they showed me something different. There had been some confusion and the old mockup had been scrapped. At the next meeting I showed drawings of what I wanted to build since the other option was no longer available. Everyone liked the idea. My manager kind of mumbled a go ahead. With 8 people sitting…
“As CEO, McMillon took home $22.8 million. The median Walmart employee, meanwhile, made $19,177. That means McMillon made 1,188 times more than the median Walmart employee. But that's nothing compared to the fortune of the Waltons, the heirs to the Walmart empire. The Walton family is worth around $150 billion combined, making them the wealthiest family in America.” Thoughts?
Only one week left at my toxic job!!
I've worked at a relatively small company for about a decade now. I loved the majority of my time there. I became great friends with my coworkers and have many fond memories over the years. One issue though was that we essentially got no raises over the years. Things then took a sharp downturn last year. Our CEO decided to do some “organizational restructuring” which involved a bunch of strange decisions being made in the dark and hardly any communication. For whatever reason, rather than include us of 7+ years in the growth plan, he wanted to hire new people to move into roles above us. And for whatever reason, he picked people with less experience than us to do that (??) My colleagues and I basically started storming HR demanding raises and voicing our displeasure in feeling we are overworked. We were repeatedly told no. The ceo even said…
