The 'nobody wants to work anymore' mantra is total bs. I send my CV to a company. They are reviewing it, but even without reaching out to me for further contact or anything want me to take a 50 min. assessment. What is funny is that I accidentally applied for another job with languages in the same company. I got another email saying that they have tried to phone but couldn't reach me -my phone is on my CV and next to me all day. 0 calls. Also today, another company reached out to me for a job that I am perfectly capable of performing. WFH. I read it out, it says I need to be in a specific country. I reply and ask them if I could apply or not because it seems like a waste of time. They say no, send me a similar job in the country…
It's been a few weeks since I was fired, so I'm finally level-headed enough to talk about this. I work for a very small healthcare capital equipment company in the US that's the offshoot of a manufacturing business. My uncle owns the healthcare company and took over the manufacturing side 2 years ago. I came on to work for my uncle/boss as a family favor. The pay wasn't good. The work wasn't something I wanted to do really. I didn't want to work with family. But he came to me, telling me he was drowning in work and he desperately needed help. He trusted me and asked me to come on board. I started with freight coordination. Then inventory management, customer service, invoicing, estimating, accounting, admin, CAD, and everything else he'd once done. I run this company. I'm the sole employee, other than my boss. Having 100% access to the…
Management blaming the workers
In Russia the most active Anti-War Movement seems to be formed out of the russian version of r/antiwork (which is there called the “Antijob” network), together with the “Feminist Anti-War Resistance” and the “Antiwar sick leave” campaign. And right now they are preparing a fund in order to organize a series of coordinated mass-strikes and resignations, maybe the strongest anti-war action yet within Russia. Please, if you consider this important, these groups have reduced capacities right now and would immensly benefit from anyone who can donate and spread the world in their own circles, channels and networks. Also in the fight against Putin, it is my humble belief from all the groups and individuals I am following there, that they have the best chance to have an influence. But just read their article to which I already linked to. It does a way better job than me at explaining. Also…
Found my Christmas bonus
Found an old envelope from a few months back that had my Christmas “bonus” in it. I explicitly remember a newer employee being told they weren’t going to receive one because they hadn’t worked at the company long enough (~6 months). The envelope contained a prepaid VISA debit card. We’ve gotten these before for random occasions and it’s usually not a lot of money generally like $100. But I figured hey free money I’ll take. I called the number and activated the card and the automated system told me “your current balance is thirty five dollars and zero cents”… … The amount of hemming and hawing over coming up with that number is mind boggling. “$50? No, no, that’s WAY too much. $30? No, that’s too little. $35? Just right.” I make $34/hr at my job so this was legit 1 hour of pay. What a slap in the face.
Good friend at my company got an outside offer with a 35% raise. She goes to management and asks if they can compete with their offer, they say “give us a couple days” 2 days later they offer to increase her salary by $1.7k. Company wonders why 80% of young talent leaves. This makes me think I should look for some offers at other places. Can’t believe our company thinks this little of us.
Ignore celebs, they’re not our allies.
With news of a possible billionaire tax and taxes on unrealized capital gains it seems all the people want to come to defend billionaires. It seems they are more upset at the rich paying taxes rather than being furious at how exploitative you have to be to become a billionaire. It would take over 2700 years of spending 1k a day before they run out of money, I think they'll be okay. Meanwhile people are dying because of food scarcity/homelessness/medical bills manufactured by capitalism. Fuck anyone who wants to defend these pricks because they are working against the interests of themselves and the rest of the 99%. They've done more harm to society than people realize. Okay rant over.
