So I work at a news station, and our news director (basically our manager) decided that the newscast directors are no longer getting overtime, so whenever w have to fill in instead of getting like 5-8 hours of OT my manager docks our hours throughout the week so it comes out to 6 days a week with no OT. Is this legal or just shitty? The real kicker is our photographers are allowed to get as much OT as they want. Do I have any options? Edit: this is in south Florida
Requesting for time off gave me anxiety
I was super anxious and I was expecting to be chastised about it, or maybe some kind of conflict from my boss. None of that happened, and this is in my new job. They told me that there's no rush at all to do the projects assigned, and to have a good rest. So that's what it's like to be working for a good company. I like this.
Negotiating Pay
Don't be afraid to ask for more money. I have been interviewing and know my worth. I was offered a part time position, which is fine, but the pay was $16 per hour. I messaged back how with my experience I would be happy to negotiate a higher pay. I didn't hear back for a week. Then I get another message with an offer of $18 per hour. I just replied how I've been actively interviewing and am pending a call back for a full time position and would let her know tomorrow. Funny how she came up with an extra $2 per hour…anyways don't ever be afraid to try and negotiate pay especially if you have the experience to back up the reason why you're asking for more. $18 isn't enough. Especially living in Southern California! Hell really living anywhere but my family needs food and the bills aren't…
Apologies for the new account. My company cut over 50% of its employees paid time off (PTO) in half a few months ago. We had generous PTO to start, but it was a surprise to see it cut so low. I most recently found out the executives now have unlimited PTO, right after cutting the PTO of their employees. I can't fathom the logic. Coming to work every day is so hard knowing this happened.
Mod List Removed
When was the list of moderators removed from the sidebar? How is anyone here ok with this change after the calamity of recent events? Now more than ever, transparency on who's doing content moderation should be a high priority, and it seems as if it's moving in the opposite direction. Thoughts? Edit: I don't see it because I'm still using old reddit. Apologies.
Here's the article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-14/the-shorter-work-week-really-worked-in-iceland-here-s-how If even Bloomberg believes this than there's hope for a 4-day workweek coming to Europe and the States.
My boss made us work on Labor Day. We worked at a small manufacturing company, like wtf people died to get that day off
A friend and coworker encouraged me to post this here after reading a slightly different version of this on r/lifeguards. About 10 years ago I started lifeguarding at a very common chain of gyms named for a certain definite article of a Romance language. Let's call it EL Fitness. 10 years ago at EL Fitness I had the pleasure of working morning shift. Every weekday I was at the same pool at 5am. I don't know why the gym opened this early. The place was basically dead at this hour, although it did give me time to complete a few chores and do some reading. Until about a month into my job, we got a new regular. He was a white guy in his 40's and chiseled from fucking marble. He was tall, shaved bald and sharply dressed in a black power suit with a matching black briefcase. You could…
I've been looking to actually do something with my life besides selling my soul to corporate America to ease some of the stress of my decadent western existence, mostly interested in some kind of Hospice volunteering or working in a soup kitchen. But it's also a challenge navigating because, predictably enough, there's plenty of people looking to exploit and profit off of your good will. I'm already looking at a “non profit” that is effectively just a thrift store job that “donates to empowering women”, and just reads like a job advertisement. Roles and Responsibilities: – Educate shoppers on the story and mission of [Not giving you native advertising assholes] – Develop customer relationships by continually developing knowledge of current trends and styling techniques – Determine customer needs and makes proper suggestions – Drive results through delivering an elevated customer experience – Ensure all merchandise is properly displayed and the…
Let them Fail, Dont Support them
Office Jobs that are in constant training specifically due to high staff turnover should just Fail, or marked “In need of Improvement” and therefore be shamed into improving. They use lables to make us all feel useless, use them against them too. Alot of places clearly dont know how to retain staff, it seems like nothing is changing and companies just double down on exploiting the most out of you for the least they can pay, less than Minimum if they could get away with it. I'd honestly rather just buy and resell online than work for some explotative company, but of course money makes money, I Hope things start to improve soon.
