Some background obviously. So I'm coming up to three years working at this company and so far I've only ever requested 1 days worth of my annual leave. I put in a leave request form three weeks in advance for 4 days off and management has replied saying they can't approve the leave due to short staffing. I really need this break though I'm burnt out and my anxiety has gotten pretty bad. I don't know what to do. Is this really fair?

What did your company do you to today?
Blame capitalism, not the managers
It’s the corporations behind most of the bullshit we face. Your manager may seem like a pain in your ass, but there’s always somebody above that manager and above the other as well. Then we get to the corporate fat cat ceos and cfos and all that other crap. Above that all, however, you have: capitalism. Always looking to exploit you and your fellow workers in the name of turning a profit. Profit will always come over welfare in a capitalist society. The ideal capitalist will sacrifice all morals, in the name of making money. To cut costs as much as we can and put standards to the bare minimum, and then less until they legally cannot. Only thing separating a capitalist from a slave owner is societal laws.
Just a thought about work
I was on Tiktok and a video cam up about how we're working to not be unhappy, and maybe one way we can be happy with our money. The thing is that most people aren't going to ever have enough money to achieve this happiness(returement) as they want to achieve it. So following the current system of work is like taking a gamble that you'll be one of those people who gets happiness, even though you're more likely to be a person who remains in unhapiness. Maybe that's why changing our work system is so important: right now most of us can only gamble at achieving long term happiness, but all the times we lose rhe bet, out employer gets to exploit us. The odds are certainly not in our favor, and I think perhaps we should get a new table.

was my employer allowed to do this?
so this happened with my first job working at safeway ive been there maybe 8 months (quit now) then suddenly one of the managers told me i have to work night shifts, 10-6. obviously im not going to do that. im 18, i have a life with family and friends and im not going to just throw that away. so i told them i cant do it, they said that i dont have a choice. the manager also said “well i worked night shift when i was your age” i just said ok and left. i ended up doing 1 night shift and it was fucked. i showed up 2 hours late on purpose to an angry manager waiting for me so he can go home. the night shift employees there are also insane and got mad at me for walking passed them so i coukd stock an isle next…
