I've worked at big corp's for years and also for small mom-n-pop shops as well. I had been in I.T. support for up until 2011. I had worked for some large companies (IBM, AT&T, and GM) and the perks were great. In the mom-n-pop shops it was feast or famine. If you are in I.T., or even if you're not, if you can see if all the technology in the place is up to date or not that is a big telltale sign if they're going to be cheap with pay (let alone any benefits, or not…). The technology I was specializing in was the larger IBM servers and I could tell if a client was going to be cheap AF, just by looking at their equipment, or looking at the software they were using. One insurance company I applied for had servers that were SEVEN years old and about…
Is this a red flag?
I interviewed for a position yesterday, and after countless rejections, I was so relieved that the interview was going well and it sounded like a good fit. Until I asked about compensation. The interviewer repeatedly stated that the job could be stressful because of the many projects they are working on and how small the team is. She said it was fast paced and stressful. Okay, no issue, as long as the pay is on par with the responsibilities/stress level that comes with it. I asked what the salary range would be like during the interview and she immediately said that salary is not to be discussed with anyone, it was strictly prohibited and that she would call me separately to discuss. During our private phone call, she asked what was the lowest amount I would take an hour. I said $22/hr which is about ~45k annually. Which is fair…

But how many has capitalism killed?
You'll hear your average rabid “anticommunist” decry anything they see as socialist to be pure evil, as if free healthcare is the first step on a slippery slope towards the Great Leap Forward. They'll then back up their driftwood of an argument by saying how communism has killed millions of people, as if every dictatorship to call itself communist or socialist is a direct ambassador of the philosophy. But what about capitalism? People forget that capitalism is just as worthy of critique because they assume that capitalism is the default. It's not. Capitalism, or at least the current version as outlined by Adam Smith, has prospered only over the last 500 years, give or take a century. Furthermore, its rap sheet is just as long if not longer than that of communism. Take genocide, for example. When European nations came to the Americas, they did so in the form of…
How about they raise my pay to more than 13/hr instead
I feel like women should be given PTO for heavy and/or especially painful periods. It's so painful sometimes and it feels like all of the energy has been sapped from your body. Not to mention the desperate trips to the gross public bathroom and having to deal with the mess of emptying a cup or changing tampons without proper privacy (you have to leave the stall to clean your messy hands and the cup or just not clean the cup at all). I'm curious to hear your opinions on this. Do you think uterus-bearing people should be granted PTO or some other accommodating during troublesome periods?
