Talk about the epitome of anti-worker. They pigeonhole your career to the company you are working with. The ONLY bargaining power you have as a worker is that you could work at other companies, and non-competes prevent this by saying you can't work for ANY competitor. Is your career in a specialized field with five companies? Guess what, pick one and hope the work culture isn't cancer because you can't leave. Want a pay raise your company won't give but a competitor would? You're out of luck. It's not like you can just temporarily switch fields for a year and then come back to your original expertise after. Amazon imprisons (metaphorically) their workers with a ONE AND A HALF YEAR NONCOMPETE. Some workers are literally being harassed and discriminated against but can't leave BECAUSE THEY CAN'T WORK IN THEIR FIELD WITH A COMPETITOR. Unless you live in California, North…
Why do people suddenly assume that people wont work if they work from home. Literally all of schooling trains you to do work from home. Forcing me to go through the rigamarole of an office setting actually deinsetivizes me to come in for work, and to work in general. Again, we are literally trained to work from home in school. And for people who might say they never did their homework, or hated it, you'd definitely be more incentivized if you were being paid to do you homework, and would become homeless for if you didn't do it.
I want to quit my job but I’m trapped
I work at a paper mill and make $26.80/hr which is great for someone like me with no degree. I absolutely hate it. The work is mind-numbingly boring and I can get forced on double shifts when ever they see fit which is frequently. I really want to quit but my girlfriend and I just bought a house. That on top of my car payments means I'm screwed if I quit. Not really sure what to do. Should I just endure it?
I’m in a seasonal position, so everything I’m doing right now is prep work for my site and my responsibilities, which hasn’t opened yet, so I haven’t had the chance to actually supervise the employees there. I need advice because I don’t want to be one of those people in management that gets a power trip and fucks over their team. So far, I’m fighting for lunches to be paid and wages to be consistent among our employees (the company pays the minimum wage for their respective states as we operate within three states, which is bullshit). The site hasn’t opened yet so I haven’t had any real opportunity to see where I can improve. I am looking for advice on how to be a non-useless manager who actively provides a good working environment for my “subordinates” and how to avoid a power trip. I have ideas myself because I…
I put in my two weeks’ notice today …
When I informed HR that I accepted a position with a different company, this was her response: ”Congratulations … I guess?” Gee, thanks for the sincerity.
Overwhelmed by workload? Unknowns? Hostage by abusive clients? That's for the lower-level employees to have to endure. Higher-level employees get to judge the outcomes, based on their subjective opinions and other people's view of their success.
