Title says it all. Even more upsetting, I'm terrified of speaking up. In a world of at-will work, they can fire me for literally any reason at any time. If that doesn't happen, there's a chance of retaliation, which like being fired for negotiating for fair wages, is only theoretically illegal and happens all the time. I think I'm going to do it any way, though.
Long story short. I completed three interviews for a company and they ended up extending an offer to me. Here’s how the convo went.. Hiring manager: we would like to extend the offer to you. Me: that’s great! awkward pause Me: .. so what’s the starting salary and benefits Hiring manager: *sounds unprepared to answer the question. Takes a moment to find the starting salary number and reads it off Me: great, and what to do the benefits include? Can you send me a copy of everything in writing? She agreed but appeared so agitated that I would have the audacity to ask such questions..should the starting salary not be the second thing straight out of a hiring manager’s mouth?? Anyway, I ended up declining the offer… saw those red flags an RAN
Told my manager what’s what today.
I recently started a new job and today is my second day post-training. On the first day of training, my manager shows me the time-clock and how to punch in and says “if you’re even one minute late, we will write you up.” I think this is bullshit but I just say “understood, I’m almost always on time anywhere I go.” Which is true. Fast forward to today and I come in 10 minutes before time and go to clock in. The manager runs out of his office and goes “woah woah woah what are you doing?” And I reply “clocking in.” And he says “you’re too early. Wait until 7.” So I then say: “so I can’t clock in if I get here early, but if I get here even 60 seconds late, I get written up?” And he replies “that is our policy, yes.” So I take a…

Boss Fight
So the title sums it up pretty well. Had a meeting with bosses because I apparently do nothing (they mean that I do my job but nothing more) and they told me I need to stop ghosting everything when I’m not working as it’s not “professional”. I’m a janitor, what’s so professional about it anyways? They also want me to check slips and schedule on my free time. I said “Work is right here. The second I step outside the building nothing work related matters at all. I can stop looking at the schedule when I work but how will I know when I work?”. Their looks were priceless as expected. I stood up, said “anyways, I gotta work and check my schedule, see you guys” and left the meeting.
