employer illegally took accrued time off, how to get it back?

I'm quitting for a better job. But I had 96 hours from 2021 that they set to 0 at the start of 2032. This is illegal in CA. When I leave I want to get that money back, should I contact HR or submit this to CA labor board?

So my last job…

So uh. I forgot to mention but when I mentioned that the 8-10 hour shifts and late closings were getting to me hard (Signed up for 20H a week), my supervisor had to talk to his supervisor, who came back with the following “suggestion” : Switch from customer support to “cleaner”. Except I'd be more like a Janitor, *also*fixing shit ( I have no way how to fix shit and I'm awful with this kind of thing). It would be 4 hours daily and I would not have to do the absolute bullshit store closing, but I wouldn't get to do the 2-7 hours of amazing customer interactions, ever, at all, either. And that was their solution. I didn't do good on the target time bullshit so they invalidated my greatest strength – or tried to. That was genuinely their solution. “Oh well if you don't like this one…

Had an asthma attack today at work.

I just need to get this off my chest. I work as a house painter and today we needed to sand an entire room, top to bottom to get texture off the wall. The electric sander stopped working today (of course) so my foreman decided we needed to sand the walls by hand. I have asthma, and I knew this was going to cause a problem for me without a mask. So i grabbed one from my car. I started sanding a wall and after doing this for about 40 minutes my chest starts to ache. the doors had to be closed because the homeowner said we were making too must dust in the air. it was so bad you couldnt really see in there. I told my foreman that my chest was hurting a lot and i have asthma. He LAUGHED at me. thinking it was some kind of…

boss told me he doesn’t care about personal problems

For context, last weekend I had to take an abrupt day off due to a family member being in the hospital and things aren't looking super good at the moment along with that I don't drive so I was at the mercy of another family member driving themselves and I a couple states away, ended up missing another days work because said family member took their sweet ass time getting back. fast forward to three days later and my district manager is at my place of work (he's rarely ever here to begin with) he pulled me to the side and straight up told me “quite frankly I don't care about your personal issues, your place is at work and you told us when we hired you, you would have reliable transportation” Mostly just venting here but I've NEVER had an employer say something so callous to me before. In…

thinking about quitting

I'm currently on LOA at my job to take care of a family member (LOA technically not approved yet…HR never sent me paperwork and my 15 days are almost up…long story)… I have a lot of family stuff going on and my current workload was overwhelming given how understaffed we are. My current boss is a severe micromanager and the HR department isn't exactly “helpful”. Im seeing my PCP tomorrow as I recently started experiencing anxiety attacks from this job (right before I requested leave) and the thought of returning makes these anxious episodes worse. I also learned my boss has taken advanced PTO without asking me. I just reread the policy and it states employees can't be negative PTO however she has explicitly said before “we can use up to 20 hours negative pto” and would continue to use upwards to that for multiple people in office. I assumed…

That’s Messed Up

How messed up is it? I had to teach my supervisor how to write someone up so she could write ME up.

I’m doing a 9h+ day unpaid internship, my manager wants me to stop doing my (paid) part-time job.

Context: I work for a company 9 hours a day (it’s 8 hours + 30 mins lunch break + 30 mins overtime). My hours change daily, sometimes I start at 8, sometimes 9 or 10. I have an hour commute into work, so overall I’m out of the house 11 hours a day. When I get back home, I teach English online for a couple of hours, then do university work, eat a ready-meal, then sleep. On the weekends I catch up with all my university work. I have absolutely no life outside of work but I couldn’t pay rent if it weren’t for my (paid) part-time job. The problem is that when I do overtime, I obviously am not scheduled for that. And on a few occasions it’s made me late for my part time job and I’ve lost two customers now. I’ve not told work this (they wouldn’t…

The Rebranding of HR – now known as “People Team”

Has anyone else experienced this load of shit yet? My last job rebranded the HR department into the “People Team”, as if that somehow negates all of the shitheads named Linda working there. It's ridiculously insulting to anyone who actually knows what HR is, and why they are actually employed in the first place. Seriously. Take your rebranding and stuff it entirely up your ass.

Quitting my job in June. I don’t want to be doing this for the rest of my life.

Long story short, I'm gonna quit this job to try and pursue an education. This job is not making me happy to say the least and I'm shocked that I lasted here as long as I did. The job is constantly understaffed as a result of it having an insanely high turnover rate. Most people that come in here, they come and go after the first week. And honestly, I can't really blame them for not wanting to stick around. I think it's mostly because there's no advancement in this department that I'm in, the workload is overwhelming, and the work/life balance here is non-existent. I have allocated like 80% of my checks into my savings account for like the past 6 months just so I can have a lot of money to cushion on when I quit. I'm 23 and I've been doing warehouse work since 2019 and I…
