I quit my last job in January and I haven't gotten my tax info. Contacted my former manager and hr, finally got a response after a week and apparently I have to contact the corporate office. I did, qnd I got an automated email saying they will try to get to my case in 2-3 business days. Is this standard protocol? Nobody informed me beforehand that I would have to do that, and I haven't heard of this before.
I really don't like the work I do, or being a lawyer, but feel like I can't leave my job…I've got two young ones to take care of, a mortgage, not to mention student loans. I feel stuck and for whatever reason I felt like telling internet strangers might make me feel better.
Husband applied and hasn’t heard back
Sorry for a lengthy, somewhat confusing question, but my current workplace is desperately hiring IT personnel. My husband has 6+ years experience in IT and literally all the items they are asking for in the job description. He applied and didn’t get a response. They claim on my companies website, they are now giving bonuses to employees who can refer to IT positions. Would it be considered in-poor-taste to email them and ask what was wrong with his application? He didn’t officially put me as a referral, but a quick search on the Google would show that we’re married. I don’t want to jeopardize my job, and he already accepted another position, and I don’t want to embarrass him so maybe it’s a moot point. But seriously, what gives? TLDR: company desperately hiring, doesn’t even respond to perfectly good candidate. Should I question it?
Hey there everybody! I work as a tissue recovery technician at a tissue procurement agency. Given the nature of our job, all of our shifts are on call. We work four days a week, twelve hour shifts. We sometimes go to away hospitals out of state, and in those cases we always get overtime. As of right now, we get paid hourly $18.50/hr), regardless of whether or not we get called in to perform tissue recovery. I would say that every week there’s at least one shift in which we don’t get called in. The longest I’ve gone without getting called in was four days (so all of my shifts in one week). I have a coworker who currently hasn’t worked her last seven shifts. Today we had a virtual meeting with people from headquarters. They told us they’re going to be moving us to per-diem. For us that means…
I worked at a small chain of movie theaters when I was a teenager (circa 2003). They were called “Madstone”, and they had about 6 locations scattered across the Southeast US. Business model was to show a mix of blockbusters and also classic and artsy movies and serve beer, wine, and sandwiches along with more classic movie theater concessions. One friday morning, some folks from corporate showed up first thing and told everyone that they were closing our location and that everyone scheduled to work that day would be helping pack things up instead of their normal duties. I wasnt working that day, so what happened next I heard 2nd hand. The day started off going according to plan. The folks who worked the box office and concessions started packing stuff up and moving it out to some box trucks. But the projectionists didnt do shit. They sat upstairs in…
Dealing with a toxic boss?
I work part time at an insurance agency and I told my boss I can’t come in because I tested positive with covid, I sent him a picture of the results and I offered to do my work from home and he’s accusing me of faking it and insisting that I go spend $100 on a PCR test to confirm. He is also unwilling to meet me halfway in any way imaginable. He expected me to work a 14 hour shift by surprise the next day and coerced me when I told him I couldn’t do it. Unfortunately I can’t quit right away but is there any solution I can use in the meantime?
Backstory: Working for a multi million tech reseller company since last July. At first it was great, but when I was hired I was told it would be “hybrid” its not, I'm training other people now and it feels like pulling teeth to get a remote day and I don't have the right equipment to make it work anyway. The CEO has been hiring his retired already wealthy friends as “consultants” instead of hiring people for the bull pen, the rest of us are drowning in work. Also he changed the insurance contribution without telling us, so I will be losing money coming up here. The biggest thing is that the people who are solid here, who I know make six figures, are also working 10 plus hours more often than not. Which is not what I want to regularly do in the future. Got offered a completely remote job…
Long but I need to talk this out. I’ve always been a hard worker. I’ve been working since I was 15 years old. I made my mom take me to go get a workers permit the day I turned 15 and started at a little pizza place. By the time I was 17 I had two jobs. We didn’t have much growing up so I wanted to work. It became important to me at an unhealthy level. I always took work weirdly serious. Even when I was a dancer for about a year when I was 19 – I took THAT seriously! Missing a day as an exotic dancer would make me feel like a failure. I mean if there was ever someone who needs to chill the fuck out it’s me. I think you get the overall vibe of my personality. I’m a little bit high strung and no…
