Is working at Target any good? Tired of being treated like shit at the school I work at

People here keep saying “Why stay here you can make 18 dollars an hour just working at target” so imma say fuck it, yeah I’ll apply to Target. Tired of working my ass off for shit pay. Heard target treats employees okay. I’m just worried that just every other retail job I’ve worked that theyll slowly either increase or decrease my hours until I can’t work there anymore. Or not respect my availability. Anyone here who works /has worked for Target got any warnings before I apply?

Doughnut be taken advantage of!!

So last week my child started working at a popular donut place. Today they told me that and they had to stop by the grocery store and get something quick and easy for food because they go straight from school to work. They are driving my car so I told them that when they had their lunch break that they could go and get something to eat, well they told me they can't. Apparently none of the staff gets a break or lunch. This upsets me greatly. I want to report them to the labor board but my child doesn't want me to. And they are afraid that they will lose their job. What should I do. Should I wait until they've been there for a little while closer to a month and then report? Or do I do it now?

Applying for a part-time job to help pay for dental surgery (thanks, US healthcare system!). I refuse to fill out the form if I already submitted a resume. Laziest application I’ve ever sent.

2 companies 2 drastically different interviews

I had an interview with company 1 about a month ago that went really well and I clicked with the team members that I interviewed with and they said they normally pay a higher rate than what I was requesting and even advised me to change my requested amount. The representative for that company stayed in contact and kept me updated on where they were in the process of reviewing my candidacy over the month or so that they were considering me. I had another interview last week with company 2 and it was a world of difference between them, from the very start the company seemed pretentious. The representative was rude and spoke to me like I was lesser than him and it sounded like he really didn’t like me and the way he acted I didn’t like him much either. Overall it reminded me of a bigger version…

Quitting My Job – Underwriting / Lending

I hope everyone is doing well and in good health. (I don't usually post here so I will keep this short…) Spent way too long in the banking industry. Mostly credit underwriting for automotive and card loans. It's hard to describe what it's like, but it really ate at my soul. I didn't like who I was at work. Decided to get married. Gave management 6 months notice that I'd need a week or two off for my honeymoon. You know how they responded? “Will you re-schedule your honeymoon? It is an inconvenience to the specialty project you're working on.” It really rubbed me the wrong way, despite being somewhat used to the normal abrasiveness of the culture there. Not even a congrats or words of encouragement. Luckily I had already been pondering my career decisions and had one foot out the door already. To which I slapped down my…

One small thing you can do to support Amy’s Kitchen workers:

You’ve probably heard about the horrible working conditions at Amy’s Kitchen and the brave workers speaking out. One easy thing you can do is write your local grocery store/co-op etc and ask them to support the boycott and temporarily stop stocking Amy’s products. I’ve sent a few emails and surprisingly most stores have been pretty open to it or at least wanting to hear more! Amy’s management is betting on this blowing over. If stores stop putting in orders nationwide, they’re gonna notice! Here’s the email I’ve been sending, feel free to personalize for your own situation. It helps if you can show you’re a regular customer since they don’t wanna lose your business (that’s why the language is focused on stuff like being a consumer instead of a moral appeal – money talks!). Dear friends at (store), I'm a regular customer at your store and wondered if you would…

I’m on sick leave and living my best life

Due to a surgery I have six weeks of sick leave. Now when the pain isn't so overpowering anymore, I can say that I really enjoy not working. I don't hate my job, I just really love not working. I do what I want during the days, and just feel so happy. Will be getting back to work soon and it will be okay, but I know that I would not be sad or restless if I didn't have to work at all. Just wanted to share that

Would people freak out if all work was suddenly “volunteers only” (no pay, no money anymore)?

It's an absurd (or surreal) thing to imagine but, suppose tomorrow, officially, money stops working. All work that gets done is strictly voluntary. At important stores (say, grocery stores) it's take what you need. I think many people would freak out, hoard, steel, refuse to help, etc. and maybe many others would do the opposite — but I have no reason to think that's more than a wild guess. What do you think?
