Here is my story. I hated college life for the most part. The education given to me by college did not justify the price. Every year, I would always list the number of times students were being ripped off by the college faculty such as the cost of books and room and board. The lectures were boring and it wasn't teaching me practical skills. I felt lost and confused and dropped out in 2018. For a couple of years, I worked some jobs in retail paying $15-17/hr. It was nice to put on my resume but I still wasn't learning valuable skills that could justify a salary increase. In 2021, I stumbled upon a digital art studio and fell in love with the atmosphere. My skills in photoshop were very lackluster but I met a mentor who would push my skills to a higher level. It was a Chinese guy…
Just know that ATHLETES have unions. To play a sport. Sure, it may be hugely profitable, but so are our corporations like Walmart, amazon, McDonald’s. The ones that us plebs keep running and sometimes run 24/7. Athletes want their cut for making the sport what it is. So should all of us. We make the products, or tech, or whatever else for these corporations. Why should we not get paid for our products the same way athletes and actors do? Some of the richest people have unions alongside them. And also, because corporate is so against unions, should show you how important they are. Sure, some are ran like shit or basically may as well not even exist, but they’re still better than not having a union Edit: as well as Hollywood actors and staff
WTF, free dinner or free shuttle home???
Fuck that. I would never work at any tech job when they felt a free dinner was a perk. Meta employees say goodbye to perks like on-site laundry | Engadget
My boss gave me some tasks to do and learn a new system for work. These were tasks to do when I had some time at home or in the store. I was told to log my time within our system. So far, I've invested around 15 hours. They saw how much I worked and deleted my hours from the system, saying they'll pay me in cash instead. I have access to everything so I downloaded an excel sheet with the times I worked just in case. However, I am wondering why they would do this. I am part-time, and the hours wouldn't have made me “full time” so I'm just curious as to why they would do this. Ultimately, it would save me money, so I can't complain much. However, I have had issues with cash deals with them in the past which makes me semi weary.
Anyone else getting weird vibes?
I'm a democratic socialist. I'm 100% here for labor activism in the United States and globally for that matter. We got big problems that need fixing, but I have just been getting wierd vibes from this sub sometimes. Like yeah fuck capitalists business owners, but glorifying people for just like quitting a job seems a bit jaded… idk anyone feeling some type of way… am I in the wrong sub? Idk
