Why is the minimum wage so low in the US?

Hey, I’m Norwegian and currently work part time at McDonalds (because I’m 18, and currently studying). I earn approximately 185 NOK (20-20.50 USD) per hour. And it makes me wonder, how is the minimum so low in many US states, when the businesses barely pay any taxes compared to Norway. (Mind you, this is a person who is a chronic slack ass and will do anything to get out of any kind of work) I was angry, so I sent a…

I think we need to re-evaluate what it means to accomplish something

Over the years, I have learned that the definitions of achievement or advancement are ambiguous and shifting. This often depends on who one works with, the nature of the work, and if one has the resources to do the intended work. It's terrible that people can be controlled by the feeling of having to prove themselves to others in a manner that isn't very self-fulfilling. Perhaps there are other ways to live that provide opportunities to improve oneself and one's relationship with the world – without getting entangled in definitions of success.
