So I was actively looking for other job opportunities (currently working but it’s a toxic work environment). I got called for an in person interview from another company in another city that’s practically almost an hour drive away. I had a good vibe from that team during the interview. They ended up liking me. I had that job offer. A day later; I noticed on Indeed that the same company was also hiring for a similar position in the city I am residing in. so I communicated my interest in this role as well to admin and I ended up getting that interview. I went for that interview (in person). There were two guys in the interview. One was close to my age it appears and the second (my potential boss) was probably in his mid to late 60s. Let’s call this second guy weirdo. I noticed that throughout the…
So I work at a very very profitable franchise that I won’t name. I am good friends with the owner of the franchise I work at who also owns several other of this franchise. He makes between $700k-1.2m per year in NET PROFIT per store. Recently he lowered everyones pay to $9.50/hr and then they get a few bucks of tips to make it add up to barely more than minimum wage. His total labor costs per store are half what his net profit is, meaning he makes twice as much money as the owner on each store than the 40+ employees it is very confidential how much he makes and he made me promise to him that I would never expose him. Recently I talked to him and strongly urged him to raise wages. He told me to f**k off and said if I don’t he has the money…
Every entry level position for sales i have applied to all end up the same i go to the interview the find out im 20 and they immediately turn off their brains til the end of the interview. How in the hell can young people expect to ever make at least 20 an hour to raise a family.
The Plan – Here’s What You Do
Everyone is always moaning on anti-work about there being no plan. Well here you go, premised on several factors. First, the presuppositions (not debating these, telling you what I think they are): Workplace organizing in the U.S. is dead, we lost, the system is set up to discourage and de-fang it, get over it, move on. The U.S. is a declining empire during one of the most political and ecologically volatile times in its history. This will result in power vacuums at the local and regional level in the future. Electoral politics in the U.S. is a choice between neo-liberal authoritarianism (Democrats) empowering fascism in the long term or outright fast-track facism (Republicans). Voting is only harm reduction in delaying facism, and that's questionable given Dems often deport, arrest, prosecute, and oppress more than Repubs in their stupid race to trip over themselves showing the American public they aren't commies.…
Supposedly entry-level…
So I got fired today for engaging in business errands. You know the thing where the people you have obligations to are open from 9-5 and your boss makes you work 8-5 and has you shut your cell phone off? Oh and did I mention you get docked a point for each time you do that no matter if the day or hour is asked off in advance? Who else has a full time job and has a strict 8-5 lockdown policy?
what can I do to help the movement?
Let's face it. Posting numbers about the wealth and generational gap on here doesn't do much. Granted it does do some. I used to be more conservative. I never classified myself as Dem or rep but I definitely leaned more right. I thought the right cared more about working people. While I don't think “democrats” care about working class people much I feel like I lean more left now. I just personally don't think any politicians give a shit about me but I want more workers rights and more income equality so I guess that's more “democrat” anyways I feel like we need a leader. Not on the internet posting stuff. Some one out there doing shit. I'm willing to rally and lead people. I have leadership qualities and charisma. What should I do? Go some where populated and start a speech or what
A binding arbitration agreement is explicit written consent to let your employer violate any of your rights, and you can't sue them. A former employer of mine has a binding arbitration agreement as part of their contract. Employees' only hope for recourse is through a mediator of the company's choosing, whose ruling can't be appealed. At that company, I saw discrimination. I saw retaliation for using FMLA time. I saw textbook, quid-pro-quo sexual harassment. (The victim had to leave the company; the harasser got promoted.) The non-discrimination policy was a joke. None of the victims have any legal recourse. (“We'Re like a fAmiLy h3re!!1” is the free space on my BINGO card.) Am I wrong to be so distrustful? Friends. Comrades. We always have recourse. We can always strike. We can always exercise passive resistance. It is literally impossible to make it impossible. Striking when it is illegal is an…
Quick question about wages
So basically to keep it short some of my coworkers and I figured out that where we work is now hiring at a higher entry level wage for the same position we have held for a much longer time. What is the best way we can approach this to our manager? I can specify further in the comments if its too vague. Thanks!
