So this isn't nearly as bad as some things on this sub, but I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do anymore. Some backstory: I (16f) have been working at a family-owned restaurant since October. Since then, two of my friends and now my sister have joined me in working there. Everything was going great until a few weeks ago, when they hired a guy (15m) who is the son of a former waitress. Now, this kid is super annoying. Not only does he repeatedly walk by tables that need to be bussed/cleaned, he also spends all his time talking to customers and doing drinks. I'm not sure how other restaurants work but at this one, there is a very clear distinction between servers, bussers and hosts. He is a busser as he's only 15 and has been here less than a month. His only job is to clean…
I work for a small business in Phoenix, Az. We have four employees in the shop including myself and the owner. The owner has two business debit cards, one he holds on to and one he has his main shop guy hold on to. During the week they will pass around the cards between us to get lunch and other supplies. Last Wednesday he gave me his card and asked me to go get some bolts from Ace Hardware and lunch for the shop from Firehouse Subs. Both places are next to each other and about 2 miles from the shop. I drove my own truck, got lunch for the shop and the bolts we needed, nothing was said about how long I was gone when I returned with lunch, bolts, card, and receipts. This morning I go into work and the owner calls me over to ask me about…
I work with two people that are pushing 65+ of age. One full time and the other part time. What makes us think we lot are going to only work for 50 and retire for 15? Can you guys tell me what the oldest age of your coworkers are? May be this will put things in perspective and push people to always look for better jobs.
I haven’t worked in three weeks
I haven't been scheduled to work in three weeks now and I am not scheduled once for the next two. Luckily for me, I have been extremely busy with traveling and family emergencies, but if I was depending on these wages more (it's my second job) I would be screwed. I asked my boss about the situation and she explained that corporate is limiting her hours and she can only schedule a few people per day. I feel like I've been laid off without actually having been laid off. I am very confused about the whole situation honestly.
I quit without another job to go to
Before I say anything else, do not follow my lead. Despite feeling relatively confident that I wouldn't be out of work long, if at all, and having a bit of spare money to pay the bills for a bit, the last few weeks have had periods of pretty serious stress. Unfortunately my boss, over a period of a few months, deteriorated our relationship pretty badly. I'd regularly kept my CV up to date but had wanted to last as long as I could before moving. I promised myself that if they behaved a certain way again in a certain situation I would quit. It happened. I rang my partner and she said go for it…bless her heart…despite knowing how stressful this was going to be. The problem was always finding the motivation after a hard day at work to spend all evening job hunting. Funny how facing joblessness can motivate…
Sharing voicemails
In the summer of 2008 I took off my blue vest and left my retail job to join the military. I would have worked until the day I left for basic training, but they wanted 5 weeks notice for a day off to swear in, so I put in my 2 weeks notice early. Our cell phone are taken away from us in basic training until our first weekend off, which is 5 weeks in. We get our phones and turn them on. I have 5 voice messages (my full inbox) getting increasingly angry from my old boss asking me where I am and calling me to cover shifts. I tell the other ladies. One of the other girls worked at the Golden Arches and another at some random mall retail joint. Their voicemails were full of the same crap too.
