Boss wants to “reconvene” at the end of the week…

I’ve been helping out for well below a liveable wage at this curling club over the past few months. I really like my co-workers, and the job is not without its silly little perks (food and drink, little oversight). Though some of the clients are tolerable, most of them are entitled little shits who are attempting to blend in with the old money by being totally obnoxious and demanding. Two Mondays ago I gave them my two weeks. It was approved and everyone was sad to see me go. On my last shift (this passed Wednesday) they told me they’d need me again on Wednesday whenever I could make it, be it 5 or 6 or 7pm, just to relieve my (ex)coworker who would be expected to open and close otherwise (9am-11pm). Boss quit and now I’m left with the aftermath.

Without compromising my identity I work in a in house shop that deals with property maintenance and the fleet vehicles we use. My boss is a great guy and very knowledgeable in the vehicle trade. Recently there was a dispute and I believe he walked out. I currently do not have any certification or skills for major vehicle repairs he was doing (electrical wiring and advanced diagnostics) so I’m pretty much a lube guy doing brakes, tire changes, and fluids. I applied for a different department in my organization awhile back and am set up to go next month… however right now I’m not sure if they’re going to keep me locked here because of a major head lost.. I’m frustrated and a bit nervous having to handle the ship on my own with vehicles that often go down… what is the best course of action?

Here’s an idea.

If the whole collective of this group pushed this it would be big. Pass a law that forces any company/corporation that make over a million dollars in combined profits to create a medical insurance fund for their workers. The fund can only be used by the employees of the company and the use of it for any other purpose shall be a FELONY with full monetary restitution to the fund and 20 years in jail. No government agency, institution nor entity has a right to this fund. This fund can only be dissolved if the company goes bankrupt or goes out of business, in which the entirety of the fund shall be EQUALLY distributed to EVERY employee that has worked for said company. For your hard work you get…

My company has been working forced overtime, 50hrs a week. Now they're demanding at minimum 60hrs a week. Only up side is we get paid a whopping Living Wage. They want us to work constantly with no stretch breaks every hour because productivity is the most important thing. So important, we get nagged by supervisors and leaders daily (some HOURLY) for our hourly numbers because most of us can't meet it. I feel my previous job's old work injury coming back. I dealt with this pain and worker's comp before. Guess I can take a second one when it finally hits me. But hey, we're getting FREE COMPANY SHIRTS! Just to remind us we are corporate drones. Better than the free candy we got last time I suppose! Anyone else having aggressively non-EHS compliant working environment?

Job hunting: A small rant

Disclaimer: I'm in HR. This is not how I hire, but it is what I'm dealing with, trying to get hired. I wish I could find a company that's not like this, so I don't have to go in and change the culture, but the kids need shoes and mama needs a job, ya know? OK – I have degrees. In my field. Which means I have spent several months learning, researching, and writing about the different topics in my field. Why do I ALSO need to have a certification just to get past the recruiting software? ​ For example, I spent an entire semester learning about change management theory and wrote a 40-page paper on it. Then I spent an entire semester learning change management practice and completed a huge project on it. I have spent hundreds of hours learning change management. But, in order to get a job…

Does anyone know if this is illegal? Can you use an employee’s picture to promote anything connected to the company?
