Does my boss HAVE to pay overtime?
Started at a new place, opened two weeks ago. First job I LOVE, we’re super short on staff and my boss is having all of us work 40 hrs a week max, she can’t pay overtime since everyone started at 15/hr plus generous tips and we’re not selling nearly enough product a day. Would rather be there than at home, and I’m the only employee with full availability, is it legal to work overtime without over time pay? I live in Texas if that helps. I doubt it since that means it could be abused. I’m not worried about my boss burning me out because she’s been very gracious so far. Thanks for reading and sorry for the silly question..
The Old Switcharoo
The rich here chose to stop calling people slaves to calling them working class or blue collar. They turned slaves from free labor to pay pigs, subsidizing their businesses and making them vital to use on a daily basis. This takes the choice a way from people and forcing them to work. Cars and insurance, homes and mortgages, healthcare and insurance. Paying so little that instead of a slave master forcing them to work more, the slave now does it to themselves. Hustle culture and social norms pin the population down in the US. The government that we believe is here to protect us has allowed the US representatives to participate in corrupt methods of in rich themselves. There is always a maverick or someone that thinks for themselves in the house or usually the senate that disagrees with the majority and the people in the US, giving an excuse…
does anyone else just stay up late just for the fact they cba with work the next day
One of the managers messed up big time.
I am good at my job, got a bonus, high productivity numbers, and created a action plan to get promoted and was given the position. So, I am standing my ground. Back story: When a employee gets promoted and continue to receive multiple HR reports from various employees. Unprofessional behavior, talking about employees, having newly employees spy on employees, calling employees bullies, telling employees they are creating a hostile work environment, making prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes about employees, and retaliating towards other employees by giving them the double work to do. Well, my direct supervisor try switching people around to calm the tension that was created by that manager and ended up telling me I had to move even when my diagnosis was provided already and medication had to be shown. My direct supervisor did apologize to me and explained to me and higher ups in a meeting the poor…
I walked in the back of house and the prep cooks nose was dripping snot into produce he was cutting and into salsa he was making. Told management and all they said to him was “Your snot is going in the food. Fix the problem and put a mask on.” I quit and when asked why management said they understood and that they dealt with the situation. The prep cook put in a 2 week notice! They still have him work there!!
I’m new at negotiating wages. I interviewed for a job advertised at $22-$24 an hour. I asked for $24 as soon as I spoke to the first recruiter, and was clear that it’s the minimum. I came in for an interview next week. It went well, except they want to start me at $22, then increase it to $24 after a 2 month review. I felt a little salty since I was clear about what I wanted from the beginning, but I figured I can always quit if they don’t follow through after the 2 months. If they didn’t plan on giving the full $24 right off the bat, part of me feels they should have fucked off. Am I being paranoid, or does the wage switch-up seem like a red flag? I’m concerned about the long-term implications. If this is a common and harmless practice, and they follow through…
