Started teaching my 9yo son about unions, strikes and the power of workers today

Showed my 9 year old son the movie Newsies (the old Disney one from 1992) tonight. At the beginning, he was all “This is the most boring thing” but at the end, he was cheering with the Newsies, play “punching” the screen when the owner/police were in frame, and shouting “Strike!” along with them all! I explained a bit about child labor and how people suffered and what unions got the American worker–but he really just wanted to watch the movie. It was a great introduction to this topic though, and I expect to be referencing it often in the future. If you have kids around 8-13, then this would be a great intro! https://preview.redd.it/5sqs9rh5xjo81.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c00870a2107ce3e31b71c8518c69c56f4d30189

Honestly do people think this is some type of badge of honor? I think it's horrible and I absolutely refuse to live my life that way. I'm 30 years old and I think my parents are starting to…
