While discussing with her mother Sue how she gets paid for selling plastiware, with free plastiware, Maureen Murphy asks “is there money in the bowls?” to which Sue responds “I need to pay attention to the road.”
Is this good?
I had an interview with a CVS in Vermont. Minimum wage is $12.55 here, right they start at $13 but because I have previous experience in that type of environment (Walgreens) I can easily negotiate for $15 starting pay . Just to be a cashier and help stock every now and then. Pharmacy techs here in this state start at $15. As someone who’s young (22m) is this a good stepping stone?
So… 24/7 then
When FDR established the minimum wage in 1938, it was $0.25 an hour. It was enough for one man (women didn't work at the time) to comfortably support a family of 4. Adjusted for inflation, $0.25 an hour would be roughly $5 in todays money, and it was enough for an entire family. Today, the minimum wage is only $7.25. Just barely over what it was when it was first introduced when adjusted for inflation, but it hasn't kept up with rising costs. FDR explicitly stated when he introduced a minimum wage that it should be living wage. Anyone who says otherwise just doesn't understand US history or economics. I would like to add that I don't make minimum wage, I make a decent wage but I am just saying don't look down on minimum wage

Hi! I work for this huge corporation that makes a very popular energy drink. I love my job and mostly the people here. But there is one gentleman that literally told the whole office out of nowhere that he wouldn't had hire me in the first place if there was an older woman that applied for my position the same time I did. Because since I was just sitting there doing paperwork and really not talking, I was really surprised at this. His reasoning is that I could potentially get pregnant 4 times and that my maternity can be up to one year. He rather hired an older woman in her 50s with the same qualifications because there is no way a 50 year old woman can get pregnant (LOL). So what if I'm younger? I don't even plan on having children. The way some people think are so wild…
My boss cut the hiring rate
So I am a restaurant worker and we got a new general manager (like new hire). He had us in a meeting and said we need to hire people at $12/hr because “we are the highest paying store in the company but we aren't bringing in the business to validate it.” Every fast food chain and gas station around is flying banners for $15 starting out and this boomer expects to get people to work harder for less money. There's no one applying for this job as is! I can't do anything to fix this and it aggravates me to no end. On top of everything, he has been pushing managers to write up people for not getting their shifts covered and build paper trails. We already lost 2 employees because of him and yet we keep hearing get the job done, no overtime.
My dad has been with this company that barely pays him enough for his salary as it is for 12 years now. He’s been salary for about 5 of those years. He just did the math and found that’s he’s paid less than the lowest hourly employee wage at his company. He’s worked over 2 months of overtime every year. He’s finally asking for a decent raise, or he’s asking to go back to hourly, because he can’t take this treatment anymore. I’m really proud of him for finally standing up for himself and his family.
