I hate this search. I currently have a “job”, but I make about 24k /yr and it’s not going to cut it. I hold a degree in economics, 3 years of federal work experience, ran a start-up, and currently enrolled in a Masters Program. What’s a dude gotta do to get a job these days? I’m not over qualified or under qualified for these positions. Just because I pursued music for a while instead of being completely unemployed during the pandemic doesn’t mean I’m unemployable, but I have a feeling that’s what may be going on. I’m searching for ESG (environmental social governance) analyst work. There are SO many jobs posted, but I guess because I don’t hold a degree from Harvard I’ll never break through. All my life I’ve chosen positions that would be environmentally conscience instead of high pay. Does anyone experience this too? You find a job…
I work for a leading electricals store in the UK and 2022 has been a rough year so far for many of us. Due to stock shortages for over a year, the company has decided to save money to compensate for fewer sales by having people work their minimum contracted hours and nothing more. I for example am now working roughly 70% less each week in a time where I need money most. Many others in same position. I rarely see anyone from my department any more as it's one person max, if anyone in that area which sucks for morale too. On top of that I learn this week that the company wants colleagues from sales, customer service desk, stockroom and our mobile department to be “OmniColleagues”. Basically they want us to do everything. Looks like hours won't be going back up any time because of this too since…
I call bullshit on a company saying that “working from home is not sustainable. That it would hurt the company culture in the long run. To be a functional team we need to be working together and that is only strengthen when we are together…Also we won’t be able to develop new employees especially younger folks who need guidance in their career.” We have been working remotely for two years and profits are at record highs. I started working at the company last year and it hasn’t been a problem being remote. All my interviews were virtual. Half the department is in NYC and the other is in San Francisco. My manager is in California and his manager is in London so why hasn’t that been a problem? Also aren’t we trying to reduce our carbon footprint? Where is the benefit for me to be at the office when it…
Company culture is mentioned all the time as a reason to end WFH. Culture can loosely be defined as learned and shared behaviors within a group of people. Seriously, what aspects of a company’s culture are being missed by WFH? Are there any good examples? Words are but wind, and I ain’t picking up what they’re putting down.
TW SELF HARM // I work from home apart from one day a week. My mental illness doesn't impede on my job but I'm pretty sure someone saw my self harm cuts and now it's like. I think they're going to fire me? There's been a lot of signs that they are since then. Even though I do everything they ask of me. I live in England btw. And I'm sorry if this is triggering for anyone. I'm wondering if this is likely or legal. I'm pretty scared because I'll lose the roof over my head if it happens, so yeah.
Replaced even though I did nothing wrong
I worked as a stockman for a commercial electrical company. A stockman is basically a type of laborer that manages and distributes all the electrical material, tools, etcetera on the job site. I am trying to get into the apprentice program but it takes a while. So anyway I was doing quite well at this job site but was suddenly laid off. I asked my foreman what I did wrong and he said i didn’t do anything and he felt really badly. I called the superintendent and asked and he said he didn’t want to get into and that I just wasn’t doing a good enough job but wouldn’t tell me what I did wrong. Later I found out that another person that the superintendent likes a lot was laid off at another job for crashing a forklift and being a general asshole piece of shit. This particular person also…
Title says all. I am 17 and I am trying to get a new job before college so I can save up. Last job didn’t work out and I’ve been looking for months(its funny people say no one wants to work yet my applications get ignored). I applied to a local gas station chain and immediately got a call back for an interview so I jumped at it. Now before I talk about my interview I want to mention that I have a very rare heart and lung disease, they go hand and hand with eachother and I am the only known case in the world. I am medicated and it keeps my condition in control, it never affected my former job but when I get sick it usually gets very bad to the point of hospitalization, I thankfully don’t get sick often so that is rare. But anyways I…
I'm really, really done. This job is stressful enough. I just found out that they're doubling my caseload to 120 homeless individuals, with a projected 20% to house. I also do recruitment (“outreach”) 3-4 days a week. It's two full jobs, for $19/hour in CA. Lately, my paychecks have been coming a full week late. I also tolerate bullying by my coworker. To add insult to injury, they're waiting until the funds are in the account to re-issue the check. I don't have direct deposit, but at this point, this clearly isn't my liability. It's never happened at any other job, and it's absurd. I have an interview and a few applications lined up. I'll be fine for this month, and I have a few coworkers who will leave me a positive reference. Do I owe them 2 weeks at this point? I'd much rather just walk out.
