Capitalism at Work

Companies are happy with capitalism until there is a worker shortage. They claim laziness and ungrateful employees. But supply & damage is a core tenant of capitalism. The supply of workers is low, so companies will need to pay higher wages. Capitalism at work, pay up.

Accidentally started an uproar

So I work at a preschool, been here just under a year. I got hired on at $15/hr, good for my area and for having no experience or degree. A few months in, I was talking to a few coworkers who had been there significantly longer than me (at the time, I was around 6 months employed and the other girls were over 2 years each) and mentioned my pay without really thinking about it. They were pissed. They had been making $12/hr the ENTIRE time without any raises or bonuses. I encouraged them to go to our boss because obviously, something was wrong. We're all working the same assistant teaching position; why should one person be compensated significantly more with less experience? Well, It ended with EVERYONE getting raises (even I was bumped to $16/hr, my current rate) and my boss posting multiple signs telling us if we “discuss…

Today I realized that my 3-month raise was just a minimum wage increase.

(mobile, sorry for formatting) I’m currently a barista at a small business that has been very successful recently. I’m a full-time college student majoring in Art Education and have been in the coffee business for just over two years now between St*rbucks and other small businesses both as a barista and a trainer. Coffee and teaching are my passions. When I was hired at my current job in late September/early November, the minimum wage in my state was 9.50 and I was started at $10 + tips. I was told that after 3 months I would receive a raise based on my performance and to not discuss wages with other staff because it was competitive. That in itself set off red flags in my head but I ignored them because I was tired of putting out poor product at my previous job and accepted this new job offer. In late…

The depravity of capitalism and working at Lowe’s

I think they believed it would instill a sense of pride, but for me it was pretty soul crushing when they'd call out the store sales numbers at the end of the day. It was usually over $100,000 and sometimes as high as $200,000 and they have 6-8 people working the entire floor and another 4 on registers. Most of us making less than $10/h. I was working at one of the largest Lowe's in America.

Someone died at work, those that witnessed still have to pay out of pocket therapy

As the title says, I work for an overlord company that i wont name but will make it easy to guess along this post. Basically after the protests and LA’s port being backed up, all the orders started coming in. With orders and stuff now being offloaded into warehouse- we gotta ship them to customers. The boxes started “piling up” on the conveyer belt. (A lot of boxes were filled then put on the conveyer to be loaded to packaging, then from there to mail out.) one of the chains snapped while someone was putting another box (as we were told to do) and ended up slicing their neck and they bled out. Company paid the family immediately. But anyone that has seen it has been offered some therapy as one would. It didnt take long for the company to say “yeah, 2 weeks of therapy was enough” and started…

I don’t expect non-IT people to understand this rant.

I get it I’m a privileged shit head. Fuck you and fuck me. Imagine that your boss is fucking stupid. A IT director that doesn’t fucking understand the most basic fucking IT shit. The senior guy also, stupid. Like fucking dumb. Or having to commute only to barely avoid being assaulted on the subway, and risk getting COVID, only to wait spend 6 hours doing jack shit in the furthest possible corner away from everyone in the building, waiting for maintenance windows. For shit you can do remotely. Like, your company was hacked and the passwords to your administrative (and other) accounts are just in plain text, in the description fields of active directory… and they didn’t change them. An IT team that barely knows how to use a computer. That spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on TVs but pennies on cybersecurity. When I was hired, fucking DNS didn’t…
