Worked at a campground “resort” in Indiana, and one of my trillion responsibilities was dumping rainwater out of canoes after a storm. In and of itself, this is normally no big deal. However, this time in particular, the storm the previous night had nearly sunk every boat in the place. These canoes were incredibly heavy, but I still managed to get all but one canoe out myself. I kept trying and trying, but could not get the full thing onto the dock to tip it if my life depended on it. Enter [Leonard] the manager ⇽ slightly altered because ded I attempt to find my manager, who had disappeared some time earlier in the day….not uncommon with him. I ended up finding him very drunk….not uncommon with him, and floating in the camp pool with his ex-wife. I asked him for help, and he proceeded to call me a f*&%&*…
There are a lot of posts here that say things like “I've worked for this company for 2 year and I finally snapped” or “I've been doing the work of 3 people and the 1 time I missed something I get yelled at, las time I do anything for them”. Shit like this. I'm not saying it's there fault and good for them for finally realizing their worth but honestly, it's more than just a wage problem, it's a mental health problem. Seems like they condition people to just get on with it and grind away. Shits fucked up
Being handled like a b*tch at the office
Ok this happened around 2.5 years ago . I’m not sure if anyone’s going to read this whole story but this seems like the appropriate place to post. TLDR: op was handled like a b*tch at the office. Salaries gets frozen and when resigned everything was possible A little backstory: I used to work at the office of a medium sized company but with like a shitload of ‘shops’ around multiple countries in Europe. I was stationed at the tech department and was pretty much the only guy who knew how to work with a specific Fortune 500 tool. Having to work with marketing was going to be part of my daily activities. When I signed at that particular job a lot of alarm bells should have gone off when my manager -let’s call him manager 1- at that company jokingly mentioned -immediately after signing my contract – that I…
All these job listings, marketing a job using 'flexible schedule' as if thats entirely a good thing should not be doing that Because correct me if I'm wrong but id say there's 2 types of flexible schedules one that's very ideal but almost never real and the other thats very real but almost never ideal. The schedule is the same every week for you, but if you need to move a day to accommodate for your life like taking kids to school, doctors appointments, concerts or whatever they could arrange that for you. Schedule changes every week, getting time off or traded shifts is incredibly difficult because they “built the schedule that way for a reason, and it wasnt asked for multiple weeks in advance” ever changing days off and start and end times, etc. Like this isn't something I read and think “hell yeah, a flexible schedule” I see…
I am trying to see what offers I may get on the job market for my current experience, and already have a phone interview in the works. I am currently full time employed and comfortable enough that I have no urgency behind my search, and would like to use this to my advantage when I weigh my options. I'd like to do my due diligence and learn a bit about what rights I have as an individual seeking employment, so I can put my most informed foot forward. I'm hoping this post can serve to aid others in a similar boat, as collective education is one of our most powerful weapons against oppression. I know I can just google my questions (And I will be doing so) but if some useful tips and answers can be saved in one place, all the better. Is there a central repository of labor…
KFC’s latest attempt to attract staff
I quit my job of 6 years which was more of a lifestyle. For reasons I'll be vague. I got help making a nice spiffy resume and someone showed me grammer and wording that is important in resumes. It worked like a charm. I had many job offers all basically general labour jobs. And i told them all, Im looking for a better work life balance, a less stressful job and I dont want people callin me, textin me all hours of the day and night when Im not working. I have a few job offers and I will be picking the one that I feel suits me best. Some lady called me for an interview, I said “how much is starting pay? And do you have benefits?” Her answer was $22 an hour (Canadian) and no. I said “Well thanks for the opportunity but I have a couple job…
Overheard this morning that our company is looking for staff, and having a hard time. Apparently there's a shortage! And people are apparently being head-hunted and scalped from us. So weird! They're talking in my earshot, so I figured I'd throw out an off-hand “Maybe you gotta pay them more” and damn didn't that set off a rant from the CFO. About how it's not sustainable, and all these companies paying people more now are going to collapse when they have to continue paying people more money when work dies down. Can't have higher-paid employees in certain positions. Well, there goes my idea of asking for a raise for the essential work I do for this place. Imagine paying people a goddamn living wage! The audacity of asking for it! (am in Australia, so the hunt for decent wages is now definitely international if anyone was wondering) I know for…
manager steals coffee from interns
I'm an intern in a team of ~15, half are managers other half are interns. To be nice, I anonymously left a box full of 50 coffee capsule for everyone to use near the coffee machine. The morning after, I came to see there was only 3 left. later in the week I saw that one of the managers had many capsules of the same type on his desk. Can't prove anything and not willing to confront him anyway. But wow. This guy probably gets paid 5 times what I get as an intern
