For a few years now I've had a little side business printing garments. Up until last year I was also working at a warehouse, generally believing that without that job I'd not be able to subsist primarily off of self-employment money. The work itself was really not that bad compared to some of the stuff I read about on here, but it was painfully boring (like 10 hrs of remedial study hall a day) and after a series of annoying events (getting passed up for promotion, having to come in on days off, getting talked down to, getting these offensive boxes of junk food in lieu of a cash xmas bonus, having to go to work during lockdown) i decided i'd just quit for a few months and if I ran out of money I'd just go work for another warehouse for a better rate. But today I realized I'm…
I screwed up
I've been with this company a couple years (including a covid layoff) and then I had to transfer to a different store because I didn't have time to wait for my job that i loved and i finally found where i belong to come back and I capped out on unemployment. I went from being an accomplished welder with a decade of experience to building hydraulic hoses and being treated like a joke. So with that I lacked motivation and struggled getting to work on time off and on for awhile. Got on anti- depressants and anti anxiety meds and it fixed the problem. But i just got rejected for a life changing job within the company because of my tardiness. So usually what happens is after a year your lates drop off like a speeding ticket. So now I feel I should maybe go back to my old job…
I work for the largest Cloud Provider (2+year). The stress is finally getting to me. I'm have to maintain a certain utilization for the entire year, my boss has to make I have work assigned (70-80%, hours in an year). Then I have to interview x amount of people, maintain 2 certificates, write x amount of articles, help sales in answering more questions. Complete x amount of training, raise hand for stretch assignments. Complete all admin tasks on time. Fine did that for almost 3 years now. Every year they don't check what I did in all those categories. During review process all my reviews come back with amazing feedback, my manager still gives me achieves, nothing more. I only get a 1.5% raise. They are suppose to give raises to match market conditions, but I doubt they will actually give them to people. All companies are evil. I have…
Happy Little Smiles
Apologies if this isnt a good fit for the sub, will certainly have no heartache if it gets deleted. But i wanted to share an actual good moment, well ongoing moments in my job. I workin a field that has hundreds of offices across the country, leading to regularly meeting and presenting to scores of people at a time. We use a software that allows profile pictures for meetings. Sometimes we're mandated to have cameras on, but most of the time, no one cares or theyre mandated off for bandwidth. I got a pandemic puppy, who is a big adventurous goofy fluff. I took a photo of him and set it as my profile picture for the meeting software, fully expecting some shit from my bosses. Instead its been the opposite. My bosses laughed when they first saw him, and when doing these big meetings, i get messages about how…
I can’t do this gas station work, hours are long overnight and it already hurts. Are there any legit data entry jobs I can get with a high school diploma and no experience?
I have a disciplinary meeting coming up
I have been working at this company for almost 9 months, I am not allowed to mention what the job is but essentially I am tasked with calling people who may have a recent specific disease (make of that what you will) Anyway they have implemented a new system where we now have 20 seconds to press the voicemail button if no one answers and if we miss that window we get in trouble. Only downside is the timer sometimes starts during the ringing stage so sometimes the 20 second window is done before the ringing stops or before you can decide if it's a voicemail or not (something that is quite hard when a lot of voicemails start with hello or hi) So quite often it comes down to the last second or two to press it. Anyway I got called into a meeting because apparently I pressed voicemail…
I recently started a new job, another guy started few days later. We have similar jobs in the same team, the idea is that we will collaborate But he is really shit at this job, it feels like he just walked in from the street with no relevant experience. Others are starting to norice. It makes my life difficult and I have tried helping him etc but we are beyond this point. He is not even interested in trying to make any effort. Yes technically not my problem, can talk to manager , HR etc. Anyone who has worked for a big company will know that nothing will really happen. I am just trying to do my own thing and aboidhim enough not to put myself in the position where I am doing his job. I really don't care. Have you been in this situation? Any real life advicr on…
Should I get paid for a work breakfast?
I am a student and also work for a small IT company that is growing quite fast. The boss can't be in 2 places at once and has asked me if I would like to go to a breakfast with other industry people, ISP providers and vendors… that sort of thing. I am to wear uniform and was told that I would be representing the company. The restaurant I will be going to is an hour drive from my house and I have to be there by 7:30am. I have already agreed to the breakfast but there has been no talk of being paid and I'm not expecting to be paid for it at this point. I was wondering if being paid for these sorts of things is normal or should I just be grateful I'm getting a free meal? Edit for grammar
I saw a post about a small business going out of business because they can't find employees. Don't get me wrong they probably were paying minimum wage and that's wrong but they also likely have skyrocketing rents, raw material prices skyrocketing and their personal expenses are the same as ours. Basically the big companies such up all the cheap goods and set low wages and small business takes crap for being stuck just like us. I work in a not super small factory and people complain our prices went up but we are having rmtrouble getting raw materials in at any cost. Yes we have profits but they actually pay well and just have higher costs of production.
