With costs of fuel on the rise, soon our food will be increasing along side it and then all others services. A lot of us are forced to drive in to an office to do work that could be done remotely. We're unnecessarily burning fuel and increasing demand. Imagine how nice it would be if the US federal government passed a law, if you can work remote, you shall. Maybe we could even start converting buildings to housing for people. Fuck man, I'm tired of this.
I haven’t been this mad in a while. I just found out about this today because I do not live with her and she called me crying. So she works as a waitress and her manager(the owner) schedules her almost everyday after school and on the weekends. On top of that he makes her serve alcohol which is illegal. She has told him she can’t work everyday but he still does it. She told him weeks ago she couldn’t work yesterday (Monday), but he still scheduled her. She didn’t go in and he told her if he finds out she was at the high school soccer game there would be a consequence. Most of their servers are high schoolers so she’s scared he’s going to ask them since she did go. Finally, she told him she was quitting today and he told her that she has to come in to…
Ooops, forgot to approve your pay!
American here. My boss just called to let me know that he's so, so very sorry, but he forgot to approve my hours this week and I might not get paid! BUT it isn't his fault, as he shouldn't have to approve hours and “they” shouldn't have put it on him. I mean he's been approving them for months, but that's besides the point. This is on top of the fact that I was hired at 32 hours with the promise of 40 hours once another part of my job became available (a part that hadn't been active for two years, but they were hoping I'd revamp). Instead, they've kept me at 32 hours, switched me from salary to hourly, and brought me on for “just a few weeks” to help complete the part of my job that was supposed to get me to a full 40 hours. I work…
“Better” in what way?
Background info: I work at a community college in the Chicagoland area. I have a masters degree, ten years of experience in higher ed, and work in student services. My position is part-time, non-unionized, no benefits, no sick or personal time. During the pandemic, we all worked from home and provided our services virtually. Last fall, admins had to decide how we would continue. My boss decided that all of us would have to go back to the office. Remote work is not an option, even though the majority of my appointments are still virtual. I commute 45 minutes to sit at a cubicle and talk to students virtually. Yesterday, I called out of work because it was snowing, and I did not want to drive in the bad weather. I offered to work from home but was told it wasn’t possible. When I get to work today, I notice…
It’s a Workers Market
Put in an application at SMF Airport for a position, got an immediate call back and interview appointment setup. This tells me they’re desperate. Went to the interview at SMF for a restaurant management position. The Director of Operations tells me to be there by 12pm today. I show up 10 minutes early. Dressed for an interview and 12pm hits, nobody around. I wait 5 minutes…..and leave. I call him on my way down the escalator. He answered, “hello” “ Hi this is insert name you scheduled an interview with me at 12pm. I was just calling to thank you for wasting my time, I won’t be back here, Bye.” He calls back immediately, I answer as if I have no idea who it is. “my name speaking who is this? This is blah blah blah. I said Oh, yeah tell your boss you Fucked Up” I Hung up. I…
The last few years have been a squid-game-esque experiment, the most vulnerable of us have already lost their houses. They've lost their dignity. Everyone's wondering why there's so many more homeless people nowadays well that's the reason. Mental health is shot, more people than ever are living paycheck to paycheck And it's only going to get worse, until the people rise up and take control of their livelihood. Capitalism has failed. We need the ultrawealthy to start paying their fair share to society or else it'll collapse under its own weight. We'll collectively wake up from this nightmare once we stop participating in an unethical society that is driven by bottom lines and maximizing output rather than our shared humanity.
