To begin I just wanna say sorry if this has already been posted, violates any sort of rules, if i’m in the wrong sub, or whatever. Please enlighten me if i had done f’d up. Asking from a US standpoint (but not limited to) and I know some of this stuff varies because the states have different labor laws than others (i think?) but i guess if there’s some general labor laws out there along with some niche ones maybe we can help inform more people. I know i, a young adult, know very little on our labor laws and our rights. Seeing the last few posts lately talking about these guys standing up for themselves because they know their rights (one was about discussing wages which i learned all about how legal it totally is and how totally illegal it is to claim its illegal to discuss wages) and…
Spotted at my local Dollar Tree today. A handwritten sign which reads verbatim ” To the EMPLOYEE who keeps drinking unpaid Rockstar punched, smoking & using non-store used air freshener: THAT IS STEALING. You are on camera. To all other employees this is why bathroom use will now have to be let in by management to monitor this THEFT. Thx, Mgmt “
I never worked that long in a day before. I'd usually do 3h-6h a day, and even with so few hours, my mental health would be shit and I once had an elaborate plan on how to kill myself. But I didn't get through it obviously, I quit the job as a last attempt to keep myself alive. But now, I'm trying to work normally since I need to pay the bills. And I'm devastated that I'm exactly in the same mindset. I left work and I was hoping a car would hit me so I can die. I'm certain I will not last for long if this what my entire future would look like. I HATE CAPITALISM
I'm an undergraduate college student and I was recently promoted to supervise 20 employees (all of whom are also college students around my age) at a 24-hour residence hall desk. I've been part of this sub for a while and I strongly believe and agree with treating employees with respect, dignity, and as human beings. But I'm struggling with the power dynamic. As soon as I got promoted, the people who used to be my coworkers started regularly calling in sick, blantantly not showing up to their shifts, and stopped doing what they were supposed to be doing at the desk (i.e. calling residents about borrowed keys, keeping track of important documentation, and completing audits). We literally lost a number of expensive keys and cards that could give strangers access to buildings and/or apartments. I spoke to my own supervisor about it, and he told me to start writing people…

School District Offers 1.75% “Raise”
Our school district received a 5% COLA adjustment from the State but only offered the teachers a 1.75% raise. This comes after last year’s 1% raise. Keep in mind our district was the only one to open up in September 2020 while no other districts went back until March or April. Some neighboring districts were shut down all year. Assuming a $65,000 salary and 185 work days, the raise comes out to about $6.00 a day, enough gas to get you and from work (our gas price is $6.00+ a gallon). We are one of the richest districts in the county and flush with reserves. Most teachers can’t afford to live in the city they work in and they wonder why no one wants to work here.
How do I speak up for myself
Every time a boss steps over me, I let them. And I hate it because I always agree with what they tell me to do even if I know it’s going to be terrible for me. Just today, I started a new job and was under the assumption that I was only going to be working 3 days a week, since I go to class the other 2 days and made it clear to my recruiter what my availability was. When I came in, my boss asked me what time I get out of class and I said 1:15pm, she then asked me what time I could go in and I immediately answered “around 3pm” not realizing that I’ve pretty much agreed to come in on the days that I said I couldn’t. I felt so fucked up right after that interaction and I later worked up the confidence to…
P&O Ferries Firing 800 Workers!!!
This makes me absolutely sick. Because of 'business issues' they somehow think it's OK to fire 800 people!! And then to expect them to accept redundancy hours after they've been told they need to vacate the ferries. This is absolutely disgusting. I hope they continue the sit-ins. To be told they're being replaced by a third party company (cheap foreign labour) by a pre-recorded message. What the actual fuck?! What kind of society are we living in?! It gets worse by the day. FUCK P&O!
