I hate my job and my life sucks

I'm in my first year of university, and I needed money because I was running out, I live with some family friends for cheap rent but I still pay for all my own food and such. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention where I work, but it's a retail store that I assumed would be good to work for. I've worked as a cashier for a few months before, and I thought it was fine, better than I expected for a first job. I've been here for 3 weeks and I honestly just want to die. Getting up at 5:30 AM to get there by 7:00 because it's 40 minutes away by train, stacking boxes for hours, constantly being expected to do things twice as fast even though I've only just started, my back and feet hurt after every single shift, everything is timed extremely strictly, we're expected…

I’m really just losing hope these days.

Hey everyone, long time reader before this account, first time poster. Just wanted to get some frustration off my chest and this seemed like a good place because of work. So, I'm not in America, so working conditions are usually better, so I can't complain too much in comparison. But the majority of the time I've spent in my 12 year career so far seems just be getting worse and more toxic constantly and I really don't know what to do. Even reading everyone's stories here makes me lose faith so much all the time. So bit of history, worked since I was 14 as much as possible, was fired during the gfc, blacklisted from a company for leaving and called 'disloyal' when I worked for them for eight years, worked for another company for two years and wasn't a brown nose to the coordinator and was fired at the…

Confessions of a workaholic

Today was rough for me. I work in a customer service role in a very fast paced environment, friday being a busy day. I like my job. I hate it, but I like my job. I like it because I like my coworkers, I like how convenient it is to get to from my home, I like the hours I have, I like that I'm good at my job, I like that it's stressful. I'm a workaholic and I enjoy my job in the same way people enjoy competitive or brutal games. I don't like that about myself, I know it's not healthy for me to enjoy this stress. I wish I wasnt like this but I'm not sure if I even can change this about myself.. I'm usually good at gaslighting myself into being at least okay with what I do and how much effort I put in. I…

I work as a night security guard for a company in Ak. since I have started I have had to work overtime due to not being releived from my post on time. I have not been paid for any of this overtime

I work as a night security guard for a company in Ak. since I have started I have had to work overtime due to not being releived from my post on time. I have not been paid for any of this overtime yet if I where to abandon my post and go home without my relief I would be fired instantly. On top of that I was recently late to work. With over an hour of notice that I would be late due to unexpected issues. I was contacted by my employer the next day and was told that it was unacceptable for me to be late for work and it cost the company money if I'm not there for the scheduled time. I'm pretty irritated with my employer and feel threatened for my job but can't afford not to work so I feel like I'm stuck in a shit…

Unpopular opinion: Using the term “(wage) slavery” referring to your office job is as wrong as using the term “white genocide”.

Everytime I read the term “slavery” for people sitting on a desk, working 40hrs a week in exchange for $50k, I roll my eyes almost as hard as when right-wingers refer to the low birth rate of white people as “white genocide”. No, working a office job is not slavery and demographic change is not genocide. I am sorry, you aren't as oppressed as black slaves in the 18th century just as white people aren't as oppressed as Jews during the Holocaust.

What’s your realistically achievable antiwork goal?

I mean this in a personal sense. Like, an antiwork lifestyle you can get to in your lifetime. Mine is slightly depressing. I’m already in more student debt than a humanities major could hope to pay off, so I plan to just double down and try to get into a funded grad school program where university professors will exploit me, but at least I’ll be in range of something I actually care about. I also bartend, so I’m really hoping for that magical 6 years of teaching literature, doing research, and Bartending twice a week.

What Do I do?.

So I work for an alarm company. If I don't give referral codes to our customers they'll fire me(if we don't give these codes to 10% of our customers I get fired). By offer A referral code I mean hey “if you know someone who wants to install our system here a code” The customers hate it and they give pretty upset when we try to sell them. What options do I have? I need to pay my bills but they say I lose my job if I don't give referral code to our customers. So what do I do? Why do I have to get yelled at and disrespected by customers to keep my job? Virtually every manager is progressive. Should I call them out publicly by name for firing working class employees for not selling enough for Vivint? So do I out Michelle and Thomas or do…
