who is in the wrong here?

I work as customer service. My working hours are from 09.00-15.00 every day. Every time i boot up my system i go through 6 different applictaion that have their own boot time. One system we use for receiving calls takes about 10 minutes to become operational. Funny thing is that my boss expects me to be logged on and ready to recive calls 9 am sharp. Not a minute late. That's why they expect us to use 10-15 minutes of our own time when we're not paid to be ready. I've tried my best to be ready 9 am sharp, but I'm always 1-5 minutes late every day because of the boot time, but also the fact that we're not getting paid until 9 am. Today i was told I've been late too many times this week and I'm getting a written warning letter. Personally i think this is pure…

Hate work? Government Job is the answer.

User to work in the private sector at an an engineering firm. 8.5 hour days + shit pay + asshole bosses. Now, as a government employee, i was on my phone for 2.5 hours straight yesterday, accomplished 2 menial tasks all day and had a fulfilling day at work ! Boss encourages me to leave early, doesn't care if I show up late. Fellow antiworkers, find a public sector job.

How should I approach “lunch and learn”? It’s total BS.

Joined a small company at the start of the pandemic and have enjoyed it, great bunch of people and the small nature of the company meant there was flexibility and involvement in different roles. The company has since been bought by a huge multinational, and of course our employment contracts, HR etc is now all centralised. As part of this we all got a million invites to “lunch and learn” throughout the year (at least one a week), which are dial in via teams. Now, firstly a pedantic point, I thought a lunch and learn is where an employer provides lunch and is another way to bullshit more training in over your lunch break. Obviously this isn’t happening remotely. Secondly, my lunch break is unpaid (1hr a day), and I usually take it away from my desk to go for a walk, and you know enjoy my life where I…

Being a teacher sucks

I teach high school. I hope this post deters people from becoming a teacher. The pay sucks. You get hit up for money ALL THE TIME to support this club or school spirit. If you don't, it's frowned upon. Also, the union dues…if you choose to join. It's hella expensive! Even while you have the choice, if you do not join, your colleagues will avoid you & question your loyalty to being a teacher at the school. It's happened to me and others I've known. I'll wrap this up with the students. The students, most of them, are okay…but the select few who are violent, sexually harass others, and do drugs repeatedly in school are simply given a slap on the wrist. By slap on the wrist I mean a few days of in school suspension coupled with a restorative meeting. So, in short, save yourself from becoming a teacher.

A story about job interviews and response times.

So this is just going to be a quick rant because I'm really fed up with this bullshit. I am a lawyer in Germany. I have been unemployed for a few month now. That is by choice because I just hated the last two law firms so much, I had to take a break and rethink what I want to do with my career. I recently had a job interview at a firm that looked absolutely perfect on paper. In the interview the partner basically did all the taking. I could just say a few sentences in between. I don't know why but that seems to be a habit of lawyers here, since that is basically how all my interviews went. What he said was actually good and I really wanted to work there. So in the end he said “we will need about two weeks to get back to…

Employers are so fucked and I’m so happy about it

Watch this about the future of the forever shrinking global workforce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmSeXdmFCCk The boomers, women entering the workforce and massive immigration created a glut of labor for the last 50 years. This has driven down wages and allowed companies to treat human being like absolute shit. In my 30+ years of professional work, I have survived almost 40 rounds of layoffs. Many of there were huge blood baths of 25-40% of my departments. They'd hire a bunch people back and cull them to bump their stock price for a quarter most years. Why not? We were disposable, right? This is over. Nobody had kids, largely because companies made employees feel so fearful and insecure about employment that nobody felt safe enough to have kids. Demographic charts should look like a pyramid. Most country's now look like kites now. Each generation is smaller than the last. The Millennial birth rate is…

I was given the option to cross the picket line as a strike breaker.

Teachers and support staff are on strike. One of my jobs is in childcare. “You know that you don’t need strike on the first day, right? You can come in and work and strike later if you want. I think most people will come into work and strike later” When teachers went remote from March 2020 through February 2021 our Governor declared a peace time emergency order for school to remain open for childcare. Childcare staff provided this critical service. This will be the first time that I have been away from work for more than 4 days during the entirety of the pandemic. Our union had a 98% yes vote. Yes I could have been a scab, but no thank you.
