My boss assaulted me last night

I work as a restaurant server. There has been some confusion about our checks and some of them were suspiciously low. Over the past several weeks my coworkers and I have been seeking an explanation of how our tips are calculated with no answer from management. Yesterday, two servers went in to open the restaurant, they got everything ready, and then were sat down by the owner. They were given a piece of paper with a bunch of numbers on it. Told this is how tip-out works and also you're fired. When I heard about this, I texted the boss and told her I was walking out until she apologized and offered their jobs back. I got no response. One of the other servers also walked out after me. Later that evening we get a text from one of the lower managers that we can come pick up our checks.…

America being pulled into war will kill every work reform movement.

Total War is a term that means, all members of society have to contribute to a war effort. In the name of winning a war in other lands, the citizenry of the home front will accept all sorts of changes to their life which they normally wouldn't. Including longer work weeks, fuel rationing, increased regulation on media, higher taxes and big brother surveillance measures. Your school didn't teach you that WW2 caused income taxes to go from being enforced on the wealthiest to being enforced on all people in the name of winning the war and they never went away after the war ended. At least not for commoners. The labor movement of the 1920s created a labor practice that discouraged pace setting. Tell a worker he isn't working fast enough, you get your ass kicked later. In WW2 workers had to step up production for the war. Military police…

Is this normal or nepotism?

For background: I am a neurodiverse female who works in tech. I have been in my role/company for 11 months. I work hard and I am constantly verbally praised for my work. My company just got approval for this year’s budget. My boss has been bragging about how well our company did last year, so the budget is significantly bigger. With that, we will be adding a new person to our team. My boss has already talked to a friend about the role, and has ‘trained him’ by showing how to do the job and showing him our software. Recently, I was told by my boss that I would not receive a promotion until I train his friend, who will make more money than me upon being hired because “he already knows how to do the job” (aka my boss showed him these things). I am in a junior level…

Could be Alternatively Titled: “I don’t want my middle management job to be rendered obsolete so I’m going to strawman the hell out of this argument” but that’s a bit of a mouthful

No paycheck and want to quit but no other oportunities out there neither

Disclaimer: Not in the US and english is not my first language so, sorry if any mistakes and this is something that is happening to my bf. As the title says, he’s not receiving a paycheck, thing is, he’s on “vacations” but they have extended it because some trouble and he asked if it was going to bd payed, one of the “owners” said yes, but, apparently it’s not going to happen. Now, he hates that job and is more o less minimum wage, he depended on that check and really wanta to quit, but there’s literally no options or any other better job out there. Just overall hate and don’t know what to tell him and he doesn’t even think clearly rn. Lawyers are not an option as they are expensive and nothing would come out anyways.

Will Starbucks close stores that unionize?

I was reading a thread with a preponderance of opinions that Starbucks would shut out the union by closing stores that voted in the union; so I did a bit of research and my opinion is “NO” As of this date over 100 Starbucks stores have indicated they want a union…and that number is growing. That is too many stores to stop the tide. Regardless of the illegality of closing the stores, a movement is happening…not just in Starbucks. “antiwork” is part of this movement. You should be proud..I know I am.

Interested to see what a living wage is

So I was just wondering. What is a good living wage in your area? I'm more interested in what's considered “entry level” or non-skilled jobs. For example, grocery store positions, clothing retail, etc. Please list an area, job title and pay based on time on the job. For example: Grocery store stocker, Dallas, TX, starting pay $18/hr.
