I told my boss I was taking another job in three weeks. Better pay, better benefits, opportunity for advancement, the whole thing. He was very gracious and understanding about it, which I'm sure is rare to hear in this sub. He also asked if I knew of anyone who could take over for me after I'm gone. I'd like to help him out, but it's really hard to throw someone under the bus like this. My current job pays $12/hr (state min. wage), does offer a mediocre health insurance plan, but has no other insurance, no retirement, no real opportunity to even pick up extra hours if you wanted to. I don't know anyone who needs a job that bad, but I still feel bad leaving them hanging like that. Is there a polite way to say “You're fucked”?
Buckle up boys and girls, it’s a long one. Summerset Senior Living is a terrible establishment, and I would refuse to work here regardless of the pay, which is also abysmal. I worked in the kitchen department, where I worked with people like (full names redacted) J, A, and C along with the servers, who were constantly changing. C is the worst boss anyone could be cursed with. He tries to pretend that he’s an easygoing person who wants to help you grow and learn in your career, when in reality he’s a micromanager who can barely keep the kitchen running by himself, or with help. He also refuses to staff the kitchen correctly in order to line his own pockets, which directly hurts the residents. There was no training provided under his supervision. My first day, I was “trained” by their Senior server, and that training only lasted a…
Can my job do this?
This is a long long long story. To keep it brief, we are technically supposed to have a 30 minute break if we work 5 or more hours. Sometimes work gets busy and not everyone is able to take breaks, I can totally live with that and I understand how hectic it can be. But, the issue is, they take that time out of your paycheck whether you get a break or not. I haven’t hardly gotten a break in weeks, so i’m having 30 minutes taken out of my paycheck every day. That adds up to a LOT of money. Another issue is, they made their company policy to where you can’t get a break unless you work 6 hours BUT still take the 30 minutes out even if you only work 5 hours that day and aren’t even “eligible” for a break. They purposely schedule people for only…
I started a new job, working with an unspecified company at home ( not naming job type or location for anonymity purposes). In training we were overloaded with a shit ton of information. The trainer and another supervisor kept going on that the pay is not minimum wage and that workers doing very well on their monthly pay cheques. It is only paying $16 an hour + commission. Or so they said. I get started and I notice my pay is only $15 an hour. And then once I am working in production I notice my pay never increased. I asked the floor supervisor why. They came back that it is minimum wage and never was above minimum wage. They told me something entirely different throughout hiring and training. The job advertised as more. my first paycheque comes out and it is short changed by about $200+. They claimed that…
A high minimum wage is meaningless if employers can choose to understaff their businesses by cutting the hours of whoever they wish. Adults who are not/are no longer students have no reason for their primary job to be limited besides some with disabilities (Who still deserve the benefits of full time employment like insurance). I have friends who would be perfectly willing to work more, and may even be passionate about the job, but are restricted because of corporate greed. Mandatory full-time offers can A) prevent purposeful understaffing B) increase employee morale/loyalty from a business standpoint C) improve the quality of service and D) help workers avoid wasting their time with jobs that do not value them.
My stomach turns in knots every time i think about this, but my boss has been underpaying me and my coworkers for 7 months. I am a delivery driver for a small pizza place and i make $10 an hour plus tips. The tipped minimum wage in our city is $12.85. My coworker called me yesterday and told me he found out a ton of things done at the restaurant are illegal, including the owner underpaying us, claiming us as seasonal workers so he can get away with giving us 11 hour shifts and only one half hour or hour break, rounding the time we clock in or out to the nearest 5 or 10, and recently the owner said he would take the price it costs to give customers free desserts out of my paychecks, as he gives the customers free desserts when we mess up. From what research…
Former Employer Embezzled(?) My Wages
TL;DR. My former employer owes me 3 paychecks. One bounced out of my bank account the other two were never issued. What can I do to get my earnings? I have documentation. I had what I though was a perfect job. I loved the work, I loved my coworkers and the schedule was flexible with my class load (I'm a college student). I had heard rumors of trouble at the other branches including people not getting paid and inappropriate behavior on the part of the owner(sexual harassments, multiple girlfriends while married, extravagant recreational expenses). I should have quit the moment I caught wind of it but I had never been wronged by an employer before and all of this drama was happening at a branch a state away. When it comes down to it I was a naïve fool. But then the paychecks stopped being sent to us and pervious…
We’ve reassessed our needs…
I had a job. Not a good job, but a job. I had a child. Agreed on one month of leave for the child. Child comes out, has some breathing issues. After about 2 weeks in the hospital, I realize that I'm going to need more time. I send an email telling them the situation and that I'd be willing to simply resign since I am taking however much time I need to with my child and the leave is (of course) totally unpaid. They tell me it's fine and to keep them updated. Two months later, I child finally gets to come home. I tell them that I can return full-time on a set date about two weeks away. The day before I'm slated to come back to work, they call and tell me they've reassessed their needs and they no longer need me to come back. They didn't…
