My first job out of college (this job) was a laboratory work type of position that paid $18/hour in a city where studio apartments cost $1800. Of course none of my coworkers had their own apartment, everyone in this town rents bedrooms (for no less than $1200 I might add). Other than the low pay, my workplace was the antithesis of of anti-work. No one barked at me for taking a 16 min break instead of a 10. Management was extremely hands off, never micromanaged. HR was very responsive t any concerns. If I called my boss and said I was feeling depressed, he’d give me as much time off as needed. I could come to work late as long as I called first to notify. HOWEVER the wage just doesn’t pay my rent and there was no room for discussion on that topic even though I tried To supplement…
Not being rude just an honest question because I just stumbled across this thread. Or is it a thread to bitch about employers? I’m confused lol Thanks guys..
It's time to admit it. The country is in the early to mid stages of economic collapse. Why? Because we have an identified, but deliberately tolerated (and in fact encouraged) market failure a small % up top wants to keep exploiting. Capitalism relies on competition to keep things “fair”. It only keeps things fair when there is competition. For too long, companies have not truly been competing for workers. Even now, are they really? Your chain burger joint didn't close because they couldn't find workers. They closed because they made the choice to shut down rather than pay a livable wage. Showing a willingness to close a location puts pressure on their workers in other locations. Your local burger joint might have collapsed because they can't find workers at a rate they can afford. If so? Other places are still in business, their business model stunk. Maybe the loans they…
Got my yearly evaluation yesterday, my performance is apparently good enough for a 2% raise. That's about 10 cents. It wasn't even a bad review this is the second best yearly raise they offer. I also completed training for my job this past year, a month long class, 31 days without a full day off, for a whopping 25 cent raise. I make just over $5.00/hr before my raises go into effect, most of my pay comes from tips, which honestly I'm very lucky because I make good money, better than most of my bosses, but it's ridiculous just how little my company cares to pay its employees. We're the biggest department in this company and yet we cost them pennies to keep around.
I don't normally post stuff or use social media but may today be a day that will live in infamy. If this post does not make someone feel anti-work with all we are going through right now then I don't know what will. I used to be a teacher at an International school in Vietnam (https://fis.edu.vn/). It was right next to the Russian embassy. I made soccer goals out of PVC pipe for the kids and put a net on it. One day I saw the Russian kids hacking away and destroying the net for no reason. When I approached them they ran away with their sticks screaming “onwards to victory!” I got stuck with them in the same elevator at the school one day and they just stared at me in complete silence. I tried to talk to them about famous ice hockey players who are Russian in the…

How should I deal with this work snitch?
So the manager at my work place got a reputation of being a snitch. But this time it was different. The other day he told my boss that my speed at work would depend on who I’m working around and that sometimes I don’t stay on task. That was a blatant lie as I always produce the highest numbers among all of my colleagues and they all know how my work quality is. My co workers say to just stop all communication that’s not work related with him. I do plan on addressing these allegations to my boss next week that what the manager said about me is false. Is there anything else I should do?
Fuck em! Who’s with me?
