I have had my minimum wage job for well over a year now and suffice it to say, it has not been a good experience. My manager is your typical power-tripping boss and has even written me up for allegedly avoiding customers simply because she does not want to do any of the customer facing jobs herself. She also does not allow the use of gloves when we clean the store (in spite of health and safety regulations in my state saying that gloves are mandatory), unless you have a dermatological condition, in the height of the pandemic claiming that gloves are only for the kitchen hands and that the front of house junior staff who also serve as cleaners (which, considering this is a somewhat busy arcade in a busy mall, is incredibly unrealistic) with her and the shift supervisors (who get the cushy kitchen hand and office backroom…
I’ve had enough
I’ve posted here before about my shitty company and my shitty job. Needless to say I still work for them because even though every where says they are hiring no one actually is. I’ve put in at least 7 job applications in the past week and the only people that are contacting me is indeed about more jobs I match. Anyway, I’ve had maybe 5 days off since October. Last June I was asked to run a second store with promises of it helping me get the promotion I wanted. About a month ago that promotion went to another woman. Back in December I told my then boss that I couldn’t/ wouldn’t do two stores anymore and here we are at the end of February with no relief in sight. Today is a high stress day for one of my stores. Today is audit day, the day my boss and…
why is it legal to pay by age?
i work at a popular coffee chain, i’m 16. i don’t understand how someone doing the EXACT same job as me who is 2 years older who started on the same day as me gets paid $15/h when i get paid $13/h i think it’s totally unfair and so strange.. like minimum wage is 15$… why is it different because i’m 2 years younger.. it’s actually baffling and makes me hate my job even more. makes me so jealous and envious that someone with the exact same skill set as me is making more money! this is the exact issue that got me into this subreddit.
I'm early 30s, been in the workforce about 8 years. Standard 40-hour work week. Ever since I started working I've been barely coping. I have several mental illnesses and I'm also suffering from gender dysphoria – so, on top of being bogged down with a ton of issues and having to deal with “real” work on top of that – I also have to moonlight as my own psychotherapist/secretary/administrator, because the health care system isn't doing its job and I'm supplementing their lack of engagement in my health with my own research, my own planning, and my own medicating. I had a breakdown the other night when I came home – crying. This capitalist system isn't even fit for an able-minded or able-bodied person, AND HERE I AM – under the same scrutiny as someone who's never been depressed or anxious beyond having had to do public speaking in school…
Why do you not want to work.
I genuinely want to know why the consensus of this group is of such idiocy. Why should you not have to work. Why do you think you should be making a lot of money for nothing.
I’m working on team A where due to a recent promotion in October means that instead of 1 month notice, I would have to give 3 month notice if I decided to leave the company. In December I was offered to work on team B (literally, as I wasn’t looking for another job, no interview – was just told about the opportunity and I thought it would benefit my career). It was all very informal and other than transcripts Skype conversations with both team A and B leaders, I have no official confirmation of this. Also, would be doing the same job I’m doing on Team A, which isn’t management. When the discussions started regarding my transfer at the beginning of January, I was told team A will hire someone to replace me and I would train them for a couple of weeks before moving to Team B permanently, which…
Not taking anyones shit
First off, I’d like to say I’m a huge fan and supporter of this community. Don’t take shit from anyone. First things first, gonna give a little backstory as to what I do that way it all makes sense considering I’m a shit story teller. I work for a well known fast food restaurant and my position is clean up/ custodial work. I start at 5am and finish up right before noon. Great pay, great benefits for part time. My job consists of the obvious, cleaning up and setting up the kitchen and back room before opening. One day I tell my manager that the worker (who is literally like 50 almost 60 years old) who is in charge of the dining room area, is doing a bad job of cleaning the windows. And I bring this up because we got a complaint of outside windows being streaky when in…
