I had a job. Not a good job, but a job. I had a child. Agreed on one month of leave for the child. Child comes out, has some breathing issues. After about 2 weeks in the hospital, I realize that I'm going to need more time. I send an email telling them the situation and that I'd be willing to simply resign since I am taking however much time I need to with my child and the leave is (of course) totally unpaid. They tell me it's fine and to keep them updated. Two months later, I child finally gets to come home. I tell them that I can return full-time on a set date about two weeks away. The day before I'm slated to come back to work, they call and tell me they've reassessed their needs and they no longer need me to come back. They didn't…
Felt like this AITA post belongs here.
Companies need to start hiring veterans
They need support from our society and we aren’t giving that too them.
I got injured on January 18th and have been out of work since. Long story short I was on a ladder in a department that I don’t work for when I reached for a box above my head and it fell on my crown, knocking me 6 feet to the floor. The box itself was like 30 pounds. Flash forward to me in the ER with a Concussion/TBI and being assigned a state doctor for my workers comp case. She decided to have me go back to work after 3 weeks work 2 hours a day with screens and computers against my wishes. I can not repeat enough how fatigued and sensitive to light I am now. I always have migraines and I’m constantly nauseous, I can’t sleep well, those are just some of my symptoms (I also lost my balance and can’t drive at night due to the lights).…
Humans arent meant to work 24/7.
Humans, especially adults should have time for relaxation and even play. This idiotic belief that you're always supposed to be working is a new concept. Id like to use the bible. In the bible there was a law that that said on saturdays you chill. And they meant the entire nation. Under fierce punishment. How is it that people who literally lived under constant threat of war can figure this out. But in our comfy era we believe we are supposed to always be working. And in the Modern era lets look at Chic fila. Theg observe every holiday, and theyve been closed ever sunday ever. And they still crush profits, and their staff is known as the nices outta all fastfood restaurants. Proving that even if u dont believe in the bible. That concept of rest for humans is supposed to happen.
I live in Iowa. Is this legal?
I work in a subset of IT project management that's really growing right now. I'm really happy with my current employer & see myself staying long term. But man, having my job title (or working at my employer) you get bombarded with recruiters and other companies trying to poach you. I now always say if they want to take the enquiry further they need to tell me the salary up front, and anything under $200k I tell them they need to get north of that to be considered. I also ask for 3 references of past employees so I can do my due diligence on the quality and culture of the company. It's so funny to see the general shock and reactions because a lot of these recruiters come to you and ask you to apply through their whole recruiting process. And how many genuinely don't think they should have…
The world does not need billionaires
As said in the title, the world does not need billionaires. If a person starts a business for example, and they fairly pay all their workers for their labour and the business' net worth grows to a billion – billions, thats totally fine If a person starts a business for example, and they poorly pay their workers, treat them poorly on the job, all while making millions – billions in profits, that is NOT fine at all. Look at some billionaires today such as Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and even Bill Gates Jeff Bezos net worth is $190 billion (2022), yet Amazon is infamously know for poorly treating their workers. Even in recent times, Amazon Paid $0 Federal Income Tax in the year 2018 (https://youtu.be/qNg55JDMDHM). He has the power to pay his workers at least $35 an hour for their labour, yet he doesnt For Elon Musk, his net worth…
Roughly 100 writers and content producers at Jezebel, Gizmodo and other G/O Media websites went on strike Tuesday after the Gizmodo Media Group Union’s contract expired at midnight. The newsroom workers for six sites, including The Root, Lifehacker, Kotaku, and Jalopnik, plan to picket outside G/O Media’s offices in New York City on Tuesday after talks broke down between the company and the Writers Guild of America East. The union has been in negotiations for a month seeking to maintain its cap on health care costs and add WPATH-compliant Trans-inclusive health coverage, maintain parental leave, and secure guaranteed minimum wage increases. about to straight up cry
I’ve been waiting on the irs to release my taxes for weeks. It’s over the 21 days. I’ve been calling and it always hangs up on me. I just got a new job but in order to take this job, I have to pay for my CPR ($30), background check ($80), and a TB test ($40), plus scrubs that I pay for out of pocket. Why am I having to pay to get paid when the government won’t even give me back the money I paid to them in the first place. Im sure this will get lost in the new posts but I can’t fucking win and I am TRYING. I want to work, I want to be out there, I was offered a job and want to go to it but I can’t afford to. I have no family, I have no support, I went NC with my…
