Asking for more $ (advice / rant)

Hi!! I (F 26) have been working as a house cleaner since 2016. I’m good at what I do, fast, and meticulous. I have a friend (M 22) who started cleaning earlier this year who has waaay less experience than me. I was surprised when I found out that he was able to charge as much as me when I have almost 6 years of experience and he has about 1. For context, I get paid around 20-24$ per hour at my jobs, and he has been making 20-25$ per hour. Yesterday he reached out to me and told me that he had been talking to another cleaner with more experience than me, who told him that as cleaners we should be charging 25-35$ per hour. He has also been getting paid 25$ an hour at some jobs without even specifically asking for it. He told me that he thinks…

How do you avoid work from home scams?

As someone who has been applying to a ton of work from home jobs I am very suspicious when I get asked for a interview. I am not so sure how do I figure out if a company is a scam or not. For example: I will sometimes have companies text me if they want to do an interview. I would rather they email me and ask me when to do time for a Zoom call or something like that. I also get a lot of job offers that ask for my credit score but I don't want to give them one and I don't know if I have one yet. I would like to know what other scams I should watch out for when looking for remote jobs?

My old job lets sexual predators continue to work

I stayed with this company for just about a year. After the clientele being the worst I’d ever seen (and I worked fast food when I was 17 and a number of other service industry jobs), absolutely no backup from management, and getting paid less than people who started after I did, I had enough and quit. Around the time I quit, this guy was transferred to our location. I got weird vibes from him from the beginning but there wasn’t much I could do about that. Come to find out that this particular man had sexually harassed and even sexually assaulted multiple women on staff (I know of at least three that have had this happen to them). When these women came forward to management, they said there wasn’t enough proof. Not only that, but they transferred him to a different location AND gave him a raise that’s more…

Is there a way to beat the system?

I have hundreds of hours of leave saved up at my job and I just found out I’ve been getting screwed over. I don’t want to quit because the benefits are very good and I have a very good retirements there. Has anyone ever found a way to beat the system and not really have your employer force you out but found a way to not do as much while taking the time you are allotted? I guess I am reminiscing about office space how he did not just get fired or quit he just stopped caring.

The worst experience I had as a young advertising creative

TLDR narcissist agency owner exploits young people for her own gain I answered an open call to help an media agency. I was invited in to do a test day of some work for a low fee of I think £50-100. Being a young graduate and looking for work I went ahead. This was many years ago now if you are wondering about the fee. The owner had seen my work and I had prepared some requested work based off designs she had asked for. Work started on this day and I began working on the clunky software she wanted me to use. Through out the day I was getting regular requests to change things, I was even looked at funny for the 1 min I took to get to a 2FA off my phone and which I had to explain I was not messing about. About half way through…

Honesty about why I left previous job on new job application?

I made this throwaway for a separate AITA post about the same situation, but because I just don't want people finding my main account I'll use it again as I know a lot of people who use this sub and they know the situation. I left a job in early January. I did not give two week notice. It was an INCREDIBLY toxic work environment. There were a few incidents that I definitely should have quit over, but I stayed because I 1. I really needed the money, and 2. I really didn't wanna leave, I liked at least some of the people working there, and 3. I absolutely hate change. The straw that broke the camel's back was that my uncle passed the day before Christmas Eve due to COVID-19. I have a difficult family dynamic, so not only was it hard to deal with the passing of my…

Sue company for crashing in ice?

We live 40minutes from her job, she has a 2wd jeep and I have a 4wd f150, we just got a lot of ice and snow on the roads, she has a lot of PTO but her job is not allowing her to take it because many people already are off because the winter storm for tomorrow. Living in rural Kansas the only highways are 2 lanes that run across strip pits and bridges and our tiny town doesn’t even have a snow plow, a neighbor does it with a tractor. She was told she MUST come in and her boss said he’d even come get her, we’ll she just messaged me saying that her job said we live too far away and our area is too rural and they will not be getting her but she still must be there on time, I know you may be thinking “You…

Job application rejected while a work colleague gets offered a role

Long story short, my work colleague and I who have the same length of experience and similar structures in resume decided to apply for a role with a different company who was hiring for multiple position. My work colleague ended up getting a interview and offered the role while I didn't even get the same opportunity, just a rejection email stating they have other candidate with stronger experience. How does that make any sense when both of us are coming from the same company, from the same role and same length of experience. So frustrating trying to look for new career opportunities in corporate BS.

I feel guilty for quitting.

At the beginning of February I put in my notice for my last day to be March 5th. I’ve been working my schedule ever since and today when I came in my boss had taken me off the schedule for next week. So ,of course, I ask him why I’m not on for my last week and his response was: “I didn’t think you would show up” I was obviously hurt by that because I never missed a single day during the 8 months I had been working there and always put my full effort in. I quit on the spot and gave him my keys, explained to him how I felt, and started to leave. Only then did he apologize and explain himself which made me feel terrible because I thought of him as a nice guy, but everyone in the company knows he can be grouchy at times.…
