I was reminded of a little story about a previous boss and figured I'd share. One day during a company meeting, my boss showed us all a video of a formula 1 pit crew setting the world record for the fasted tire change (or something like that) and said we should strive to be like them when changing over machines. I and others on the production team started joking about how much those guys must get paid compared to all of us, to which the boss responded with the post title. Our comments were all in good fun, so nobody pushed the matter. Later, as I was leaving, I saw the boss showing the video to a client who had stopped by for a tour. When he explained to the client that he expected the team to perform like the pit crew, the client said the same thing as all…
What kind of reasoning is that? And why should that effect me? If you can’t afford to pay me then let me go and allow me to collect unemployment. Instead they are whittling away my hours, so I can barely make ends meet. BACKGROUND I have worked here for 2 years and am the only cook that has stayed since the new owners took over. I stepped up when we were short staffed, I stayed later to help out, I literally prep everything for this store to function and sell food. I’m just so sick of working in kitchens and working for people who don’t care about anything other than the bottom line. I want to just walk out.
HR says inflation is really only 4%
During our company meeting, people asked what their plan was on yearly raises given that inflation was hovering at 7-8%. The HR rep said that if you average out inflation throughout 2021, inflation was really only like 4%. That’s,,, not how math works?? Inflation is referenced to the same month a year prior. If CPI right now is 7.9%, then it means things on average cost 7.9% more in February 2022 than they did in February 2021, and wages need to be adjusted to reflect that. You can’t just average-out the monthly CPI throughout 2021 and say “Oh actually, things are only 4.5% more expensive right now than a year ago”. The excuses they’re willing to make up to justify pay cuts is astounding.
They truly believe that you can live on a little over $800 a month. I'm being sued for wage garnishment right now and was looking into my options, and the federal government for wage garnishment allows everything over $217 a week to be taken to pay debt and if you can't afford to live off of $217 a week you have to file in court and prove why that causes you a hardship. I barely work 21 hours a week but I make $11 an hour so it's over $217 a week take home. I also am a full time student trying to desperately get a degree that will get me out of this shitty cycle of poverty. I am sole wage earner for my family, it's me my long term boyfriend and our 14 year old son. Boyfriend cannot work our son is special needs and one of us…
Found this in one of my textbooks
justice system only for the rich
As a lowley 22 year old stuck in the probation system i have found that there truly is no justice in america, firstly going to court judt to find out that because i make above 1000 dollars a month im not entitled to a court appointed attorney you know even though most of my monthly income goes to my rent and food. Second the probation system is just a scam to keep people struggling down i was told by my PO if i dont sign up for these classes averaging at 250 dollars (on top of payments of 280 a month) in the next to months i will be revoked from probation, i told her im sorry i have been struggling to make ends meet and have been trying to save for the classes to which she replied “try working more hours” im sorry but my job limits me to…
I worked retail for two years. Not only are you getting paid as little as possible, on the tiniest skeleton crew possible, the shoppers, people who are more than likely in the same shit situation as you, treat you just as bad. I couldn't believe the scummery, people would try on shoes and then leave them on the ground. Of course, if we had an extra person we'd keep these few shoes picked up but if we didn't, it would eventually become a shoe mountain right in the middle of an aisle. Families would come in, and let their kids run straight to the toy section like we were some kinda playhouse. It was guaranteed that the toy section would at the very least be completely destroyed, if not torn apart and the toy pieces strewn about. People would lay out rugs on the ground and then leave them there,…
Y’all, I got to tell y’all something. I’m still shocked. I done submitted this post in askHR for some clarification on this. But, I’m sharing it here too. So, I submitted my accommodations letter because I have ADHD and taking medication has to be shown at my job just in case I get drug screen. Well my doctor wrote the accommodations letter explaining my mental health diagnose, the accommodations I will need, and the mg I take for my ADHD medication. Well, HR said “it’s not acceptable” and my doctor needed to write my accommodations to all 14 bullet points. I go to my doctor and rely what HR said. My doctor flat out said, “ No. I am not writing all your accommodations to each bullet point on that paper. The letter I wrote explaining the accommodations you needed is acceptable for ADA standards. Plus, ADHD is a changing…
