Changing some details to make it more anonymous on the off chance this situation is recognizable to anyone above me, but the overall facts are still true. I work on a relatively small team (~20 employees) for a relatively large company. In a recent team meeting, our director was talking about staffing and told us that over $1 million has been given to the team for hiring purposes this year. They went on to say that our current workload doesn't necessitate hiring additional employees and asked if any of us had ideas of new roles that could be created to let them know. I'm just… baffled. They flat out admitted that every single person on our team could be given $50,000/year raise. But instead they want us to make up new roles for them to hire for work they admitted we don't have the need for. What kind of logic…
Wanting to Return To Office
So currently we are all remote where I work. You should have heard the meeting. “Yes we are trying to get back to return to office status, we feel as if seeing everyone face to face would inspire, and communicate better as well as bring about team spirit.” Of course they have no due date to do that, however that just code for, “I'm bored at home and I want to go back to the office so I can feel good being a micro manager and bossing everyone around sipping coffee and asking other department managers what are they doing for lunch so we can pretend to feel as if our Master's degree's mean something to us.” GTF out of here with that Bool Shyt!!!! Sorry had to vent.
I changed my title on LinkedIn to reflect the more common title for what I do as I was job searching. My current manager is a connection because I stupidly connected with her back when I was new to the job. I hate the job and want to leave. I had deleted the post that showed I changed the job title. I brought up changing the title to her in a one on one since our current title sounds like sales and we are not sales. She said she would consider it. She just messaged me on Teams saying she saw I had changed the title and to change it back. Now, come on. This is MY profile. I turned off my public profile on LinkedIn- does that turn it off to her? What else can I do to tell her to fuck herself? They are such micromanaging assholes. I…
My company has been hyping up this new office they purchased and wants everyone to return to the office. The only people who are still working from home are the sales team, which I am apart of. I don't live in the same city as my job but they want me to relocate out there so I can be in person. I don't want that. They've also just hired someone to be fully remote so I'm not so sure what the goal of having me out there is when I can do my job here fine and have no issues. In the interview I told them I'd eventually move out there but I feel at this point they are going off of that and now with the cost of living so high, I have no interest to move out there
He told me after the fact. “I used your name and email to get a quote from a competitor” i told him he should have asked and that i would have said no and asked why he didnt just make a fake account? He replied with haha ok. I have a pretty decent relationship with him. For the most part i consider him a good friend, bUt he struggles withe the boss friend balance cuz the company has like 7 employees. It took me a couple years but we get health, mental and dental (he pays 50% every month) after me pushing for it and he helps pay into an IRA which none of those things are common in this industry. So i am grateful for that cuz he does care. That being said that shit rubbed me the wrong way and just wanted to vent about it. I guess…
Just want to rant about my job. I work for a popular fast food chain and we are losing employees left and right. We are down to two managers, one of which is an absolute nightmare to work with. She comes in with an attitude everyday and talks down to everyone. The other manager is pretty chill. We are supposed to have 56 employees yet we have like 13. Higher ups are demanding that we extend our store hours even though we have no employees to work those hours. They aren’t giving us another option. I come in everyday and do the job of 3-4 people. I don’t really have any other job options rn so I have to just push through it. I’m so over higher ups being so out of touch and demanding the impossible. I want to cuss them out and scream. I make a pretty decent…
Since the start of my employment (about 3 months ago) there’s been some really weird behavior in terms of extreme micro-management by my direct manager. -My manager logs into my computer after hours and during my lunch breaks and sends emails from my work account to clients and partners. -He forwards work from my computer to himself and then presents this work as his own. -Deletes emails and documents off of my computer when he deems it unimportant or something that doesn’t pertain to me. There are a lot more things being done by my manager that are examples of crazy micromanaging but the above ones are the most concerning because I feel that this puts me in a compromised place where I could be blamed if something goes wrong because the “paper trail” will appear to come back to me. When I brought my concerns to him about this,…
My girlfriends mental health has gone down because of her job and she would like to leave. They just gave her a horrible schedule and she’s more inclined to just leave than to give a two weeks notice. Are there any down side to giving no notice. She’s scared that it’ll go poorly for her down the road, like potential future employers won’t hire her. I told her it should be okay but just to not use any manager there as a reference and she should be okay. Is there actually any downside. (In Florida)
Corporate Simping
I have at least one co-worker who occasionally brags that she never calls off. She's also been the recipient of multiple Perfect Attendance awards. I can only eye-roll. This is the kind of corp simp/slave capitalism loves. She also gets excited when the upper management does their parade circlejerk to present awards and “photo ops”
If you'd like an imperfect, but fairly predictive, hint at how an organization treats its employees, take a look at its corporate structure. Specifically, look at who HR reports to. You can generally find this on corporate websites under “About” for most organizations with more than 50 employees. There are basically four generally accepted ways to structure HR in non-union organizations. Here they are with why the positioning matters: HR reports to CEO – This is ideal. This structure means the head of HR is on the senior management team and has a seat in the important meetings. It means the organization considers the input of HR in major decisions, which, admittedly, could be bad decisions, like to layoff. But it also means they part of any expansion or restructuring discussions and the HR needs are being taken into account from day one. It also means that other senior officers…
