Just lied to get a day off because I had a breakdown

I lied that there was a family emergency. In reality, I had a breakdown because so many things happened at once today and I broke down. It wasn't even that much but all of the negative feelings built up I guess and it exploded. I just don't want to work after. Thing is, a break down won't be recognized to get a day off. The people will see you as weak so I had to lie that there was an emergency to get a rest. …and that's why society is messed up.

Loyalty should be to your family, friends, and yourself, not your job.

I've come to the realization that you shouldn't kid yourself. Most companies have literally zero loyalty to you these days. Especially mega-wealthy international companies. Their only loyalty is quarterly earnings, profits, and shareholder value. So they should not expect loyalty from you either. Do your job, do it well, do your job with pride and strive to move up and make more money. But do realize that the moment it becomes financially reasonable for a company to get rid of you, they will. Or they'll replace you with someone else that they'll pay less for. So have loyalty for your family, have loyalty for your good friends, and have loyalty to yourself to fight for your personal time to spend with them away from the job that will not give that back in return. Fighting for your personal time may be looking for a different job, switching careers, creating a…

Advice for the most professional way to let someone know you’re not working for them until you get paid

Some of you may remember me from a few weeks ago. I’m a ‘contractor’ art instructor, who gets paid on a monthly basis, but have yet to receive my first paycheck. Now I’m almost ready to send my February invoice, and have still yet to receive my January check. I’ve completely lost my patience, and am ready to let them know I will require both months of pay before I continue doing any more work for them. I want to be as professional as possible, as I don’t want them to have any excuse to paint me as a “bad person”. I don’t want to be accusatory. I don’t want to be rude. I just want to be completely black and white with my intentions, and also make it clear that I’m not quitting, but just suspending myself until I’m given what I was promised. Please advise, and try to…

Job interview today.

I am a PCA . I care for the elderly in their homes aka private care. My current employer pays $13-16 an hour , but rarely more than 15 if they are being honest. I interviewed for another agency , and I up front told her “I like what I do, and am pretty good at it, but money is my main concern.” I was hired $18-$22 an hour, and I negotiate with the client , not the agency. If I want additional compensation , if I run an errand etc. I set my rate. Don't be afraid to be upfront, and bold. It's not enough to make me rich, but an extra $800-$1000 a month more. This can pay my rent, or at least most of it.

I work at a pool store and head office just took away our commissions on big ticket items

Title, basically. I just learned that they took away commissions on pools and hot tubs because ‘everyone was fighting over them’ but decided to keep the commissions for smaller items such as robotic pool vacuums and heaters thinking people won’t do the same for those. Fuck those guys, it’s a good thing I work at a hospital and this is just a side thing for me, but they lost quite a few employees after announcing this and lost the motivation to sell big ticket items for me and everyone else. Womp, womp

Don’t give up, keep the pressure up on wages

This article is rather wonky, but the money quote is “social pressure and prevailing norms seem to have a strong effect on wage rates” When a few companies bend to our will, more will follow! https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/22/opinion/democrats-republican-objectivity.html

The correct response to bereavement

I had a death in the family today. I spoke to my direct supervisor as well as my director. Both of their replies were “I am so sorry. Please take the time you need. You and your family are the priority”. I am extremely lucky to work for such wonderful people, be assured they are out there. Accept nothing less.

Recruiter had me send in a resume she knew I wasn’t gonna get. LOL

So recruiter reached out to me, asking if I’d be open to a Analyst position. I thought sure I’ll see what happens. So I forward my resume, and after a few weeks didn’t hear anything. Saw the dm in my LinkedIn actually that reminded me about it. So I sent a follow up message asking what’s going on. She could have said “it was filled” and be over with it. She goes into how I needed 5 more years of experience and a graduate degree. I replied back, you reached out to me and can see my background on my LinkedIn page. By knowing this, why would you even want me to send over my resume when I didn’t meet the requirements? It’s a small thing, but really. This is why people hate recruiters.

Happy Supermarket Employee Day!

Today my employer scheduled a cookout for this, hung signs around every time clock advertising free burgers, hot dogs, etc to show appreciation for all our hard work today. Go in today for it, find out it’s been cancelled day of because the Store Manager went on vacation this week and he was the one planning to grill. I expect nothing and I’m still let down
