There's a spoken policy in the place where I work that my previous managers and current managers enforce, that after clocking out, you're meant to take out garbage with you on your way out “since it's on the way anyway”. I knew this was off the clock work, and in most instances unpaid overtime, so instead I would gather my things first (put on my jacket, grab my work bag), then take out the garbage, then punch out. I did this twice this week. But then when clocking in this morning I noticed that my punch out times were different, and when I asked my manager about it they stated that they did roll my clock out time back, and that you need to punch out first before taking out garbage, and that everyone else does it anyway. I told them that was a violation of my labor rights and…
Why not just pay them more
I worked at a small coffee roastery for a few years – I started out roasting and doing production tasks and moved my way up to operations manager in a short time, over seeing all wholesale and retail orders, purchasing, and logistics. We were given no federal holidays off, worked hot long days in the summer, and no insurance/perks besides free coffee were given. The owner who comes from a very wealthy east coast family played it off as being good friends with everybody, guaranteeing “unlimited PTO”, etc. but everyone was scared to ask for any because he always turned it back on them and said it would create a ton more work for him. I gave him a months notice when I was quitting, citing mental health issues caused largely by the job, he told me I needed to “stick it out” and that I was taking the easy…
Show them they fucked up
With all these companies forcing back to office – take your good damn time. Drop your productivity, engage in the “office culture” they want you to build. If you’re reprimanded? “I agree, I believe my performance was drastically better when I was working from home. YOU wanted us to return to office. This is the culture you were missing”. Show them they fucked up
The rounding clock system used at work
Interviewee: “So, why do you want to work here?” Me: “Look, I ain't in this for your revolution. I'm not in it for you Princess. I expect to be well paid. I'm in it for the money.”
The gift that keeps on giving
Hello antiwork friends! We present an AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC), who are participating with the account u/WorkplaceOrganizing. We are opening the post ahead of the scheduled AMA (Friday, 11 AM EST / UTC -5) so you can get your questions in. Please vote on questions you'd like to prioritize to be answered. Now, we'll let EWOC introduce themselves: The Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC) began as a way to connect workplace organizers with essential workers during the 2020 lockdown. Last year, EWOC began to train new workplace organizers in order to help rebuild the labor movement. Our first training series of 2022 begins Wednesday, March 9. In four discussion sessions over two weeks, participants will be introduced to the fundamental principles of workplace organizing. Organizer Training Series…
I was hesitant to apply to this job within my company because this company sucks. But I wanted the pay raise.. They don’t do raises and if you try and fight them about it, it goes no where. So they created a new role. A lead position to assist with my department. I did not want to apply because I do the bare minimum as is and I’m fine with that. I’ve been wanting to switch jobs for a while but I haven’t had the opportunity. I’m just about to graduate with my BA. So it is hard for me to find a company willing to take me in with little to no experience in said places. Anyways, back on topic. My coworker’s informed me that the other leads in other departments only got a dollar raise or 1.50$ raise…. That’s so pathetic to me. Like it’s insulting. I interviewed…
Long hour exhaustion
To start I’m a corporate security officer (sergeant ,evening supervisor) and frankly my hours suck. Being second in command it falls on me to cover hours when needed. So to avoid confusion I’ll say that our site contract has us do contractual hours. So we have to hit a certain number of hours per week regardless of how many bodies we have. We are currently down two people so baseline I do 50 hours a week. This current week I’m doing 60hours (4am to 4pm) and the difference in sleep schedule is fucking me up. Last year we did 60 hour weeks for several months because a coworker was out due to injury. And I damn near quit. Now my boss is leaving and I may be asked yo take his place and I don’t think it want it. Not to mention I’ll be doing 60s till we can hire…
