Ask yourself: Am I quitting a company or a person?

I work for a great company that has terrible leaders at certain locations. So when you find yourself being treated poorly, take the time to ask this question. If it’s a company, by all means get out of there. If it’s just a bad leader/manager check around at the other locations. I know I have taken in plenty of “bad” employees that have turned out to be great people that were treated badly.

How many applications have you filled out in the last 12 months? I have a bone to pick with my local news station.

I need some real world data here… My local news station is on this kick, particularly one reporter, that people don't want to work anymore. (Truthfully no one does…) I want to provide real world experiences to this reporter so that HOPEFULLY they'll consider doing a bit from the other side. Now I know there's a portion of people in here who are gonna bring up capitalism being bad, a portion who talk about the ultra rich being evil, a portion who just plain old don't want to work, a portion who hates money, and a portion who just want a living wage. This is NOT the post to complain and offer an opinion. The fact is, our current economic system is what it is. You need money to pay for the goods and services you need/want. And typically that requires having a job or owning a business. Something that…

Is getting a job honestly more important than my interest?

After going to therapy, listening to friends, and going through community college… I don't understand why I need to hit myself trying to find a full-time job. I mean.. I have food and shelter with my parents right now, I've got no interest to be in a relationship, and I don't have any irl friends. Honestly, it sounds like getting better at my interest would be more worth my time than slaving away at a full-time job. I'll be miserable if I get one anyway, right? I've got a part-time job right now and I'm already miserable. Why not just use this time to focus on shit I like? Maybe I could make money doing it? I'd rather be mentally happy over wanting to kill myself every day.

“I will make a decision tomorrow whether coming to work is worth risking anyone’s life”

A red weather warning (the severest level) has been issued where I live in the UK, advising not to travel unless absolutely necessary. This was my managers response. Is making money really worth the risk of your staff safety? This seems so dystopian to me.

what are some jobs that don’t leave you physically exhausted, and enough time to work on your shit yourself?

I don't think I can take another day working at the fast food place I'm at.

My employer control the private life of employees and nobody cares about it

It really makes me crazy. I work in a bank with about 150k employees. When I got hired, I signed a contract saying I would follow the rules of the bank. The problem is the rules get updated every 6 months and every time there are more crazy limitations. First of all we must have our bank account in this bank, we can't use other banks. Obviously, they totally violate our privacy because they can see every transaction we made, and it happened that I got called and had to explain why I spent my money for something (for example purchases from abroad) They also forbid us to trade in stocks or anything similar. Recently I bought some Bitcoin and they told me it's forbidden and said I must sold them. I said crypto are not stocks, so they simply updated the company rules and added that crypto are forbidden.…

New Job Rant

I got a new job and have been here about two weeks. I hated it the first few days and after that it’s just been very meh. I’m feeling incredibly defeated after today. At the beginning of the day today, they were telling us we are all getting a super cool surprise at 2. So anticipating it all day, we finally go down there. “$1,000-$3,000 Bonuses for everybody!” (Just dependent on part time/full time, position, etc) Sweet!!! So the guy presenting them gives this bullshit speech about how this job really cares about all 1,000s of their employees. And basically says this is a very rare occurrence, so don’t expect it often. At the end of this speech, he goes “And these are only for people that started before December 15.” My heart literally sinks as they start passing out bonuses to most other people. They pass me an envelope.…

Book/collated info on billionaires/wealth holders

Hi Mods, delete if not allowed. I have no idea if this is appropriate for antiwork. I think the relevant thing is where does our stolen profits go when we labor? Does anyone know of a book or websites that accurately portray the wealth distribution and how those wealth holders gained/keep/grow their wealth? I've never seen a good breakdown on the panama, paradise, or pandora papers. We have the information but like, where's the info graphic that makes it digestible? I have a lot of time right now and I'm wondering if that's a worthy project to learn some coding/analysis for? Again, please delete if not the right sub. My justification is that I do think this information would benefit the antiwork movement. The reality is those that own the wealth will keep holding it until we pry it off them. In order to eat the rich we need to…

Went to a company for a new role they created but none of the managers wanted

So this happened to me about 6 years ago. I was recommended by a good friend to a company who was creating a new role. Basically they had a bunch of plants all over the country and abroad and all services were being contracted directly by each plant. The VP of operations wanted to channel all contracts through one person (me) so that based on the volume of the services required the company would get better rates and reduce administrative costs. So I come on board and begin the process of unifying the contracting/tendering process and get push back from all the plant managers. They were all on kick backs from the vendors so they didn’t want to relinquish their control over contracts (first red flag). VP still insisted I keep going and he even told me to review ALL current contracts to see if we could get better rates.…
