Can a job claw back your yearly bonus if you put in your notice after you’ve received it?

So I got an amazing job offer the other day and I accepted. My current job doesn't know yet, because I want to get my yearly bonus before I leave because it'll be to the tune of like 10k after taxes, and it was for the work I did in 2021 so I earned it. I start at my new company the end of March, and my bonus comes mid March, leaving enough time for me to only give them a weeks notice, and I literally have to give my notice the day I get my bonus or else I won't be able to give them even a week. I looked in our employee handbook and I don't see anything that says I have to be with the company a certain amount of time after the bonus, but I'm fairly certain if I give them notice before I get the…

An open letter to my boss for trying to guilt us into working tomorrow on a paid holiday

Since names are changed to protect the innocent (read: cover my ass) my boss is named Ted. Ted, When someone on the team reminded the rest of us on Friday that Monday is a paid holiday you took the opportunity to guilt us into working on the upcoming trade show demo by saying that is what you will be doing and told us all that these trade show dates are fixed in time. A trade show the company has rushed into and poorly prepared for and a demo which barely does what it's supposed to and is only tangentially related to the show itself. Let me put it into perspective for you Ted. It's summer and you're outside in your beautiful yard with your beautiful family at your beautiful house on the beautiful golf course and a wayward golf ball strikes you in the head, knocking you out and you…

Family!

Received an offer from two different retailers. Took the one that was $5 an hour more. When I declined the other position they tried to convince me that their business was more of a family. Such a tough decision lol.

“You didn’t have a leverage then”

I work in a pretty niche industry. The kind that if you go to linkedin and see a stranger in your circle, they are my second or third degree connection. Everyone knows someone you know. When I was hired, my salary was $60k. I took on a lot of responsibilities than anyone in my position, my results were 5-6 times faster than my counterparts. I was a manager, customer service, technical advisor and coordinator in other areas. I at least was working a 3 person job, better and faster. Even VPs of other departments noticed this and gave compliments to my boss. I did receive a small bump when the new year started (cost of living, 3k). I asked for a raise when my first anniversarry was approaching, my boss asked me how much I was looking for. I said 15%. I got about 10% and my salary now as…

Facebook has been emailing me for about 18 months trying to recruit. About a month ago I finally sent them a reply.

Most companies try to underpay you. FAANG isn't any different (see collusion), though there is a difference: even with collusion, the salaries of many of these positions are still much easier to live off of than what many people experience and have available. But, at least for me, money and pay is not literally the only thing I care about when taking a job. I don't tolerate being exploited, they can't substitute underpaying with other things. But there are additional requirements beyond pay that I try to hold prospective employers to. One of those is business ethics. All companies are sociopaths, and most of the people who run them are too. You're never going to find a moral beacon to work for unless you start the company yourself. But what I can do is avoid companies that are actively destroying society. After 18 months of ignoring their emails, in December…

Working while homeless

So, I work in a hospital, and we are getting rid of some old drug dispensing machines because we bought new ones. The company we purchased them from pays another company(Tazmanian) to pick up the old ones. So, I was talking to these 2 guys who work for Tasmanian, and they were in a real sad shape. One guy is limping with a bum knee, which he says is work related but says he can't afford to do anything about it. So he's hauling this 200-pound machine when he can barely walk. The other guy told me he lives in a tent. A fucking tent! This is New England in the winter. Some days, your eyelashes freeze shut. I'm pretty tough and bike in the winter, but I could never imagine surviving in a tent. How can a working human being in this rich country be homeless? It just seems…

The workers who make Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups describe going to work as a stay in “Hershey’s prison” – forced to work 70+ days straight, receive constant forced overtime, and punished for time off, now they’re unionizing to take back their power.

If truck drivers can organize over a vaccine, why can’t working-class people organize over things like getting beaten up by customers or being forced to work with food poisoning or after the death of a family member?

Is it because the truck drivers are mostly men? Why can't Working Class People in these terrible awful jobs organized? I've had people throw more smoke at me when I say you should file a police report over workplace assault, then having smoked for the guys assaulting people!
