I have the opportunity to make a difference for my local hospital, where I have previous work experience. I received the email below from a family friend that works for my local HCA (for-profit) Hospital, and I am able to directly contact them through text. I want to encourage them to offer this as a paid position, but I am not sure how to express that without ruining the relationship my family has with them. I am sharing this here in hopes that some of you have notes on how to be as persuasive as possible. My first draft is: “Hello X, I just received the email that you had sent around regarding the volunteer position for the desk at the Baby Suites. Working at a hospital in any capacity is a direct health risk, and I don't feel that it is appropriate to offer this position without some form…
So I’m the president of my local union in a glass facility and the owners recently changed. Since the move from one company to the other the transition for direct deposits, 401ks, w-4s and all things regarding payroll have been real fucked up. After 4 pay period (8 weeks) our issues still haven’t been resolved. Everyone in the facility is dealing with at least one if not more issues that i outlined above. The company says they are working on it and will make sure everyone is made whole but it’s been going on to long. I spoke to my union rep this morning and i was told to outline everyone’s individual issues regarding this roll over. The union is stepping in to try and resolve the issue but if it’s not done but a certain deadline then my union will be filing charges with the department of labor and…
How the revolving door formed
I was just at a restaurant that will hire you under the pretenses that you will be making A LOT of money. The tips are pooled, credit&cash, then divvied up at night and you walk with maybe 10$ in cash and generally more (like 200-1000$) from credit cards that goes on your check. From ONE shift. SUPPOSEDLY. Your paid minimum wage during training and then server minimum when off training. They will start you in training, basic processes of serving, for approximately 3 days. If you really bust your tail, you'll be told how awesome you are, and even have the opportunity to be off training early. The training days I had, which I only earned 8-10$ in the tip cut I got & 0 credit tips (other servers had over 800 in tips for that dinner shift), we were selling 14k/day. We were packed with a line out the…
Recruiters don’t get it
There’s this recruiter who keeps not understanding me. I don’t want a hard job. I want a to work the bare freaking minimum while being paid as much as possible. I don’t want “growth opportunities” or other nonsense. Then she is asking me if I can “commit” to taking a job if it’s offered at a certain salary…uh no I don’t owe you anything. What is wrong with these people?
Da Gawd Tay Zonday just cuz.
Mama Economy pooped up on my Youtube feed today and needed to re-share it, sisnce its been a decade.
College student and need strong advice
I just started a job at a Korean BBQ place as a busser and everything seemed great. People were nice, uniforms are comfortable, and tips are good. I just woke up after my first closing shift last night. I worked until midnight, after 7 hours. Now i’m not a complainer at all, in fact I don’t mind sweating for 7 hours and going home with concrete feet because my feet are flat. but after mopping the entire restaurant and now the bathrooms, I couldn’t help but think “I didn’t sign up to be a minimum wage janitor.” I go to school full time and it is NOT EASY. Idk how many 12am shifts I can do. I was a busser for 3 years at an Italian restaurant and loved it, around 4 hours and around ~$40-60 in tips every night. my rent is ~$950 btw. PLEASE drop any recommendations for…
I understand security. Two factor authentication is a neat way to help protect business assets. For some reason today, however, setting up my personal phone to take on-call messages and for MFA on all the company's apps really made me despise all of these companies relying on my cell phone to protect their digital assets. It's my phone, and I get that the paycheck given to me pays for it, but I don't want to let your company use my phone to get a hold of me after hours or install apps to protect your data. If you want to play like a full sized company, give me a phone that can protect my logins to your systems – stop expecting me to do this on my phone because “everybody has a phone” and “it's not like it's intrusive.” It's your data. Protect it with your equipment. Sorry for…
I gave my 2 week notice that my last day was Feb 1. My boss went from speaking to me daily to not at all. My last day I asked what I should do with the equipment. I worked from home and have their laptop, monitors, printer, and wires. No response. The following Friday I texted my boss who said he will look into it. Usually they would send boxes so eq can be shipped. Two weeks later still nothing. I sent a follow up saying I can no longer house their equipment and it needs to be resolved this week. What are my options if they keep delaying it? Im in Louisiana
Afraid to leave my job of 14 years.
I really want to leave a job I have been working in since I was a kid, but am terrified to tell my employer that I don’t want to work there anymore. It is a small place and a small team, but I feel dread every time that it is time for work and the hours aren’t so good either. There is loads of job opportunities where I live but to be honest I have been working 14 years straight and in that time hardly ever asked for a day off. What I really want to do is just take a break from the work force altogether, maybe that might be good for my mental health because for for years I have suffered from anxiety and other stuff that I am trying to deal with. Tldr- Afraid to quit my job that is taking a toll on my mental health.…
