I refuse to patronize Starbucks until they get their shit together. I feel like I am the only one.
When management was asked about pay tied to market rates they among other things claimed. “Our excellent corporate culture is factored into your compensation”. We have had three software developer positions open for a entire year on my team. I guess I want to know when my kids daycare starts accepting corporate culture as payment?
The U.S is literally a oligarchy where the bottom 90% of the population live at almost 3rd world level of condition and the top 1% live like kings. It is the most dystopian nation on earth. It shouldn’t be considered a developed country, it is an underdeveloped, in Democratic, dystopian country. My own mother died at 57 because she couldn’t afford medical treatment and worked all her life. She pulled 60-70 hour work weeks on average and for what? Just to live in a cardboard box house and eat corn based junk “food”? Fuck this country.

What defines a good job/career?
I don’t know if this post has been done before, but as I read through some of these horror stories, I often wonder… what is the ideal career/job? Generally: How long should someone have to work during a day (if at all)? How much should someone be paid? What benefits should be supported by work? How much vacation/personal time should someone receive? How long should someone work until retirement?
So many subs here and other online communities have the rule “no political speech.” It's also a shunned conversation topic at work and at social gatherings. Isn't politics basically a study of our relationships with other humans? If we can't talk to one another about it, can we ever solve any social problems? Would we do better if we just banned calling each other idiots in all caps and making up cute names like “Dumb Donald” and “Sleepy Joe” to obscure actual political speech?
