The store I worked at had just gotten a new line of flat-pack furniture. The general manager had offered my $20/piece to come in on my day off and assemble the display models. There were 25 units, and I managed to build 13 of them in a day (it's pretty easy, once you get into a groove, and with no customers bothering you constantly). After I was done for the day, I went to the GM, “$260, please!” At that point, he decided to just pay me my hourly rate (around $12/hour at the time) instead. He literally told me that he hadn't expected me to get so much done in a day, otherwise he wouldn't have offered me such a great deal. So, $260 cash became $96 before taxes. I was so pissed, but couldn't afford to quit at the time. The next day, he told me to build…
Boss is that you?
I am self employed and my business is pretty feast or famine. I have been supporting us the past few months and things have been tough but doable. He finally got a call for an interview at a certain big blue home improvement store. For background, he has years of handyman, wood working, electrical, lumber and large machine operating experience. They wanted to hire him, but as a CSR, for which he has little “relevant experience” on paper, and start him well below the wage his general knowledge and experience should afford him anywhere else in the store. As soon as he signed the papers for that starting wage and position, they tell him he's working in lumber instead. But for the newbie CSR pay rate. He is too proud to quit or kick up a fuss. I am beyond pissed on his behalf. Does he have any recourse or…
This happened a few months ago. I recently graduated law school, took the bar, and passed. I had everything done and was just waiting to hear back from the State Bar with the final paperwork so I was applying to local jobs with the expectation I'd be hired as an associate when I was officially licensed. Anyway, I interviewed at a small 2-3 lawyer law firm in a HCOL area. It was relaxed, the managing attorney was an older man but seemed really chill and so did the employees. The work was also something in line with my morals. I go, interview, he says he needs someone to start quick because his legal assistant is leaving to law school. I have clinical experience in the work that the law firm does. He offers me an hourly salary until I officially join the bar, which was only a matter of waiting…
I've only had this job a few days. It's in a shop that processes a lot of wood, so there's always dust around. When I get home and shake out my clothes, i have to do it outdoors. So they have masks for the workers, and they fit me fine, but then I can't wear my glasses. The masks push them away from my eyes and then I can't see. My vision is really bad, so I have to wear them. I've been making do with cloth masks that i made, and it was sort of okay until today. There was so much dust floating around today that the smoke alarm went off. I was coughing a lot. Went outside to get some fresh air for a bit, then went back. I left a bit early as I was feeling bad, and a couple of hours later my lungs and…
9/10 stories on this sub are about terrible bosses, but this one is about my coworker. My gf woke up this morning screaming in pain and I asked her if she wanted to go into urgent care and she said she wanted to wait it out. Got to work and told my boss and she was fine with it and understood. Awesome boss, however my jackass coworker had a huge issue saying I can’t and how he needs me. I work in a local pet store with three employees. I asked him if his wife was in the hospital would he want to be at work and he replied “well you aren’t married so it’s different.” I don’t think it is, but whatever. Yo aren’t my boss or manager or anything above me ,so you can shove your foot up your ass.
I’m a coach for pre school age kids sports. I work 15 hours a week or so right now while I go to school to be an elementary school teacher. I LOVE my job and my kids. It’s so fun to see their giant smiles when we’re playing games and I feel like I bond with so many of them. Plus coaches get to be more like the fun uncle while teachers are the strict parents. However, I’m getting married end of July. I told my boss about it today during my review, and he said we’d have to see if we can find coaches to sub for me that week while I go on my honeymoon. This is still five months away, but he pretty much said we’d need to wait until mid June to see if I can actually get it off. Obviously that doesn’t fly, because I…
I’m the only real person in the room
I'm the only real person in the room. I am not a fake robot. If I'm pissed off, ima wear it on my face. In the morning, I'm gonna look tired. I dont want to do small talk with you. We are strangers. Wipe that cheesy fake ass grin off your face. Yall have it freezing cold in the office. I'm gonna wear a sweater. Idgaf about your dress code. Why are we having another stupid meeting. I dont want to have this stupid meeting. You're putting meetings on my schedule for almost no reason. Stop complaining about the revenue I've brought in. I have closed almost $10 million in sales for you. Leave me alone. I make all this money for you, and I cant even get a raise to match the inflation going on. I hate corporate America. All of you can suck my balls with whipped cream.
