Hi all. Welcome to my rant. On thursday, I asked to see my boss to ask for a raise. We have been 1 person short in a 3 person department since mid October. His replacement, who arrived 2 weeks ago, has no experience in my field but is 49 and has done sales administration for longer than me, though not that much for her age. She does not speak english and we work in export, so kind of an important skill to have… My other co-worker is leaving on monday, she's paid more than I because she has more seniority in the company and was a sort of supervisor without the rank. So, on Thursday I put on my big girl pants and went to my boss for a raise. 'Cause, you know, having more seniority, still being understaffed, being knowledgeable on all aspects of the company, being the only…
How is everyone spending their money?
Just curious, as I read through a lot of these posts, it seems like a lot of folks are struggling financially. I'm respectfully curious, how does everyone spend their money? How does everyone make their money? I've got a regular job…m-f 9-5… Nothing special… Nothing overly difficult. I had my own small business and was doing well (made enough to do what I wanted, gave me the freedom to do what I wanted) but shut it down almost 2 years ago due to Covid and went out and got a regular job. It's easy; pay is decent. Not too flashy but somewhere in the middle-middle class. My wife doesn't work…she doesn't need to. I don't really care if she does or not. We're expecting a baby this summer. We bought a duplex last summer, we live on one side, rent the other. I find that we don't really NEED a…
Constitutional rights
It has been a fact, and also a discussion, that when one enters into a workplace, one's constitutional rights are forfeit. There is no freedom of speech, i have been kicked out of a department store for openly filming, your dress code might include a uniform, etc. It's said that we agree to these terms upon entering their doors, but the begged question here is why are there constitutional rights -at all- if you never get to actually have them in life? If your freedom of speech is gone when you have to go get that money, what point, purpose, or significance did they ever have? How many people need to suffer indignities before everyone stands together with those who are treated poorly trying to get the scratch that you're getting? I've seen so many instances of blatant abuse from employers directed at people who have recounted their experiences here…
I am panicking and typing quickly so I apologize if the wording is off. I don’t have the guts to even read it back and correct it I just need help! I am tagging NSFW due to language I’m sorry if that’s incorrect. I woke up sick on Tuesday morning so I called into work. I didn’t throw up again but I wasn’t feeling better later on and still don’t. I was scheduled to work tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday so I had Wednesday off. Today is not Friday. Mentally, I’ve been awful lately. I won’t get too into detail because this will end up being a novel. It’s hard for me to get out of bed everyday and find any motivation to do anything I just hate everything right now and I can’t find a reason to move forward. I also haven’t been eating lately. I’ve had not even…
I truly don’t want a house at all
I am probably in the minority when I say I don't want a house. What does this have to do with r/antiwork you may be asking? Well, I consider myself more of a minimalist who loves small space with less people in it. I always wanted a small apartment with some house plants and a little shelf of books as well. Maybe a shelf of liquor and a place to smoke when I become 21-years-old and over this April and so forth. I am probably never going to get married and have kids, mostly because life is a huge pile of shit and nothing ever good comes with kids in my opinion besides some happy-go-lucky moments, but eventually, they'll grow up and deal with life as a result of you bringing them here to put up with it. My family is living proof of this, lmao. I work 3 days…
I was out sick with covid for 3 weeks, about 2-3 months back. I am a part-time salary employee at 25 hours a week, and was paid for all of my time off. This week my employer tells me, 2 months after the fact, that I have to work extra hours for the next few weeks to make up for those hours I was compensated. This is hard for me as I have other commitments and what's supposed to be 25 hours gets spread out to where I end up having to be there 4-5 days a week already. I will more than likely get fired if I don't commit to this. I am grateful I was paid for the time that I was off ( not that they had a choice ) but I feel like I'm being slightly taken advantage of.
All I (21F) can say is what I thought things was going well, it hit left field. I get called in and I’m told that “we’re letting you go because you don’t seem interested.” No other reason just look uninterested. I respond “oh? I can assure you that I am. I’ve been listening and taking in the task that have been given to me, the company has been slow. So I understand that there isn’t much to work with right now.” They don’t really budge with my response and say “well we’ve discussed beforehand by others, not everyone but it’s something that’s already been decided. I wish you best of luck.” Regardless, I don’t fight for my position because it’s not worth explaining to someone who will not take the time to understand who I am as an individual and how I operate within the workplace. They had discussed my…
You go to university and get into 60k debt. Provided you get a “real degree” your chances at a “normal life are good. You go to uni and go into 60K debt for some arts or painting or gender studies, your chances aren’t so good. You go to trade school and get a trade, your chances are pretty good. BUT WHATS THE POINT when day after day these jobs are being exported overseas as the country is being hollowed from the inside out? At the same time millions upon millions of people come here (legally & illegally) to compete for both low skilled and high skilled jobs. Don’t you see it? Large corporations are selling your jobs outside for a dime on the dollar, which is supported by politicians making big bank when the do this. Don’t you get it? Soon, there won’t be any “good” jobs left, much like…
24 hours a day. If you don’t count the time we sleep, half of our lives are spent working. Sad.
