Can we take a moment to recognize the companies who actually take good care of their employees

First off, there’s a ton a of shit companies out there who suck to work for. How about the companies who actually value their employees? Who truly pay a competitive salary, have a good benefits package, and want you to retire with them? How about companies who have a pension. Even more of a plus if they do this without you having to form a Union against them. These companies exist. Let’s recognize them, and hold other companies to the same standard.

Offered me an interview and then ghosted me

So I've been working on moving to a new state and had been applying to a few Arborist/tree care positions in the area I want to move to. A company that I really liked contacted me back and gave me a brief text “pre-interview” on indeed, which I filled out. The hiring manager got back to me the next day and scheduled a phone interview a full week out from the date of scheduling it. I thought this was kind of odd, but thought nothing of it. She said she'd call me sometime between 10-12pm, which I also thought was strange to have such a large window, but I had never done a phone interview and I liked the company so I overlooked it. I feel good

I recently began working at a facility that bottles syrup, and have thus far enjoyed my time there. It's not even been a month. But…there are a few things I noticed right off the bat about this job. They're understaffed. I mean they have NO backstock. What they bottle goes right out of the door. They don't have the staff to support any extra work to catch up. The supervisors and managers have no clue what they're doing or what they're talking about half the time. As per fucking usual in my experience. They have hired countless new people and I am one of the few they've been able to retain. They really use and abuse the shit out of you if you allow it. Pay discrepancy across fields is nuts (Aus)

Hey guys, just thought I’d share a story about pay discrepancy in the two fields I’ve worked in that makes absolutely zero sense to me. Will also preface I’m from Aus so all values are Australian and related to the Aus job market. I’ve just left my job as a financial writer for a 40+ person company (content team of around 10 people). I enjoyed the job and the company itself was great with a good culture, but the pay was not. Without going into specifics I was on less than $50k salary for 42.5 hour weeks. Granted, I was fresh out of Uni but speaking with other employees, those that had been there for years weren’t making any more than ~$60k. I got the job due to the fact I had 2 University degrees, a major and a minor all related to the field and I was only just…

Trader Joe’s Doesn’t Care If I Get Covid

Everyone praises Trader Joe’s as a great company to work for, but they don’t insist that customers wear masks, because god forbid they upset the sensibilities of inconsiderate assholes. Other supermarket chains will kick you out for not wearing a mask. Meanwhile, a maskless customer can stand a foot away from me and ask where the hhhhabanero hhhhummus is and I can’t tell him to get the fuck away from me. I can’t refuse to ring up unmasked customers. I mean, I could, but I’d be mysteriously absent from next week’s schedule. They couldn’t care less whether I get Covid or not, as long as they get that asshole’s $4.99.

Terminated while on FMLA… Is that legal?

I was put out on leave for stress and medical issues by my doctor. It was approved by insurance and I followed policy of informing my core leader and hr department of my time off. Less than a week into time off I received a letter via FedEx stating I was terminated for “violating a policy”. Which policy was not stated and I was locked out of all my accounts including access to my paystubs. This doesn't feel legal. I live in California which I know is an at will state but I was technically out on short term disability/ FMLA which is supposed to protect my job while I'm out.

Child Labor Epiphany – Am I crazy?

Ok so I'm just trying to see if this strikes anyone else on here as weird and wrong. So today, I was talking with a friend of mine whose boss called her during her birthday celebration. She basically had to stop celebrating her birthday and solve a work thing on her computer. I told her “If my boss pulls that, I'll quit, I'm too old and jaded”.
