As above. Worked a small business IT shop that made residential calls. Kinda like TV repairmen but for PCs. Drive to customers' homes, work on pc or just clean it up and speed it up, collect payment, leave. I was fine with this. Left an ok job to come work for this guy as he HIRED me as a full-time employee. But that's the issue. He fucking lied. I was only being paid for the time at the appointments I was scheduled. “But drive times?” – made Less than my normal hourly rate as compensation. No actual milage, just paid for “drive times” “Was it a company car?” – No. It was my personal vehicle. “Did you have a gas card?” – No. The time I was driving was put on my paycheck, making it taxable, and losing me even more money. “Benefits?” – basically none, as I didn't make…
Calm down i know that it is bad.. but captalist thrive from this because they can fire one employee thay already have other employee who you have shared your knowledge.. when knowledge sharing become less captalist indeed will have to listen to us.. without knowledge not many captalist can survive because mostly they have no idea how to work….Im not against knowledge sharing but this make capatalist have a option over us
How do you not just lie down in the dirt and die? Here, where the absolute minimum they can pay is 11.90, it’s hard to pay rent and survive. What the HELL does under 8 dollars an hour do??? Does food cost any less where you are or can you just not eat on an hour’s wage?
I lead a team of knowledge workers and I want to get external ideas on what antiwork would want in a workplace. Depending on responses here I might post more questions. I'm hoping to get a discussion going around what the ideal knowledge work looks like. We do the basics you want: we pay 2-3x livable wage to start, health insurance, 401k etc., bonus/profit share etc. WFH as much as you prefer, an office if you want a change of scenery. Now what kind of schedule would you prefer? Outputs don't change, we still need to deliver X virtual widgets per week, and we still need to cover various client meetings and such during the “classic” hours. Classic? 9-5 M-F with lunches but no mornings, evenings Compressed: 4 x 10 hour days, 3 day weekends Crunch: Super compressed, 3 days of gonzo crunch, no breaks, no nonsense, 1 day napping…
