Pandemic grinder

The great resignation gives me hope things will improve and people will be treated fairly. My story is one of the unfortunate ones. Like some of the other reported layoffs (firings), former employer (IT) got us all in a video meeting and let it rip claiming the pandemic forced the change. My access to the network was immediately cutoff. So, no good-byes or anything to the people I worked with for years. They gave severance (if you signed papers) and claimed we could come back. Not too long after, news pieces (Internet) and posts (LinkedIn) announcing various mergers (at least 4), transforming the company into an international one. Another interesting twist, this company started posting a lot of vacancies for positions they just eliminated. Of course, they never contacted me (doubt anyone else they canned too). Probably the best outcome though, because they totally f**ked it up and who would…

Question on my Rights

Am I within my rights to record my boss at work? I'm trying to put a bunch of incidents together and get as much evidence as possible, but I don't want to break any laws. I would like to know how much I can record and whether video/audio is a factor?

How do/should I quit my job?

I have never quit or even wanted to quit a job before but my current job is not making me happy and this is the first time I have ever wanted to quit a job. How should I go about doing it, I would like to give some notice but how much do i give? I know if I leave they will probably want me to train somebody else to do the jobs I'm leaving behind which doesn't really fill me with joy. I'm right in saying that I only have to give two weeks notice and they can't make me stay anymore than that? Leaving on good or bad terms doesn't really bother me I just don't want to leave my work mates on bad terms but my manager can have any feelings he wants.

I got fired for not fixing the date order on an Excel sheet.

Basically what the title says. My (now former) boss asked me to reverse the date order on an Excel sheet we had, so instead of it being from Feb-May, it would be May-Feb. Initially I’d asked if I could keep it that way since it was easier for me to keep track, but her response was “it’s not easy for me to keep track, so change it”. This was on Monday, and there were a million other things that took priority over this, so I decided I would fix it during my shift today. Well. I walked in this morning and not even five minutes after walking in I was asked to come into the front office, where I was sat down, thanked for my work, and fired. When I asked why, I was told it was because I “didn’t follow protocol”. This all happened in front of another coworker…

Update from last week

I didn’t get fired—- yet. I made a post about getting suspended a week ago, they said one more time or “customer complaint” I’m terminated. Which isn’t fair because the last two where false complaints. They Might as well have terminated me because Lord knows half these rich people love to ruin poor peoples lives… like I can’t even wear my hat (covering up matted hair from the Santa hat I wore) w/o Karen’s getting triggered.

Out of sight out of mind — working from home and lack of career promotion opportunities

I have been working from home since the Covid stared and now it has been already 2+ years. I work in software development and basically all I need is my PC and MS Teams. The company seems to have accepted that remote working is here to stay and has not made any plans yet about bringing us back. There has not been any major drop in productivity and everyone (i.e., management) is happy with how things turned out. There have been several surveys in the meantime about working from home and most of employees are happy with it and reasons for it are mainly spending more time with family and spending less time on a daily commute. HR and management have done some trainings about work-life balance and that is all. Everything is fine and keep-up-the good work But lately I am thinking more and more about how there aren’t…
