I’m a data analyst and even though I’ve only been in the industry for six months I’ve been getting a lot of interview offers from recruiters as of the past couple of weeks. Im not even actively looking for a new job though I’m always open to jumping ship for a much better opportunity. Being contacted by recruiters and having so many interviews lined up is completely new to me though. I still remember when I graduated from high school in 2014 and it was literally impossible for me to get even a job at McDonald’s without any kind of experience. I also remember around that time I had an interview for a retail job at a Torrid where they rejected me basically just because I wasn’t a fashion expert….and that job only wanted to pay $8.50/hr. I wasn’t the only one either, one person I graduated with filled out…
CANADIAN PROTESTS
I dont care what your politics are. It doesn't matter where you stand on this position. This is the most successful workers protest in years. https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/11/americas/canada-truckers-protests-covid-friday/index.html Canadian truckers have shut down a bridge that does 1b+ a day in commerce https://www.ambassadorbridge.com/ This is the power of workers united. The corporate media will call these truckers all sorts of names. They will say their motives are disgusting and cruel. The facts are that common people came together and have caused major problems to the establishment. So much so that they will probably be beaten by police and arrested. Imagine this type of protest for whatever cause you have. It would work.
There was this post about somebody’s friend suicide ranting how a manager is asking about a document. First of all, I am incredibly sorry for your loss, unfortunately I am in your shoes right now (my grandmother passed two days ago), under different circumstances though. It is perfectly normal (at least in most of Europe) for your employer to ask for certificate of death. Let me elaborate on this: in Europe(btw I work for an American company) you are allowed by law to get PTO in case of death, but in order for it to be paid you need to provide documents so the company can fix its legal issues with that PTO. Therefore, I do not understand what is wrong with the current situation. After all, it is in your benefit not to spend any of your PTO and to get PTO without any kind of approval required as…
If the 1.7m of us on here all started to actively try and recruit new members just image what we could grow the group to in a few years. Once there's enough of us our views would have to carry more weight as we would be able to start influencing elections and the like. Everyone here should see it as their duty to spread the word!
Thinking of quitting my job.
I work for a drug testing facility and boy let me tell you we have our standards set extremely high when it comes to our code and regulations but that doesn’t equate when it comes to pay. I get 15.50 an hour to deal with DOT regulations which doesn’t seem right. We have government regulations but don’t seem to get paid government pay. I’ve spoken with my boss about this and he kind of brushed it off so I think this might be time to leave.
Target is getting salty
i look at the future and it seems incredibly depressing and lonely. working, working, working just for some paper and indulging in hobbies occasionally and that's it is it? I live at home still and the thought of moving out in some shithole house or apartment alone makes me want to put a bullet in my head. The happiest i ever was in my entire life was living out of a backpack in south east Asia riding my scooter around and chilling with people in hostels, no where to be, no pressure or expectations literal just chilling. It felt so good and primal just hanging out with people in that way. I got back home and its been a downward spiral ever since and that was 2 years ago lol.
How else to make money?
Besides working… how do we make money?
