If working full-time isn’t any easier than living off grid? Why are we doing it?

Before I speak about the topic I want to focus on workplace. I'm not an expert here, but I feel like an obvious solution to employees taking sudden leaves of absence, is to hire on call workers for that very occasion. Why can't you just have people on the books ready to temporarily take the place of those absent? I realize this may not work for complicated jobs that require training and education. But most labour jobs specifically, are pretty much child's play. Anyone with a brain could show up and take orders. Also labour jobs especially take a toll on people. It would make sense to offer your employees time off whenever they need it, as a lot of labour work is extremely taxing on both physical and mental health, and with them being the jobs that have the most work for the least pay in today's society, it…

Lack of breaks

I was working in the floral department of a grocery store chain yesterday. It was very busy because it was the Sunday before Valentine's Day and the entire department seemed overwhelmed. For the shift I worked (6 hours) I should have gotten two breaks (as per the union/employment agreement) but was only given one, which I only got once I went looking for someone to relieve me. Talking to the other employees there that day, I realized it was even worse for them: two girls, one with a 9-hour shift and one with an 8-hour shift also only got a single 15 minute break when they should have received two 15 minute breaks and a half-hour lunch. This is absolutely unacceptable, not to mention illegal. Considering going to the union rep, mostly for the sake of those other employees.

Webcam Surveillance Work from Home

Not sure if this is the most appropriate sub for this post so sorry in advance. I've started working a new position at my call center agency for tech support. This new client, Altice USA wants all remote employees to have their webcams on at all times. The reason I work remote is due to some underlying mental conditions I have that make it hard to work around other people. I CANNOT work knowing someones watching me. Do you think it would be a reasonable accommodation to request my webcam be off for my shift?

They panic, we pay and pay and lose everything. This is how capitalism really doesn’t work. One wall st. executive has the power to take an entire country down by destabilizing the economy. No joke watched it happen because of 911.

A response after our chef group chat was moaning to each other about overworking and underpaying us. (there’s only one chef per location so it’s our only form of communication with someone in the same role).
